Halloween Slumber Party for Tweens

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. (Or at least it did when I first wrote this!)What a great time to let your tween have a sleepover! These can be really fun! Since most Teenagers now have cell phones, skip the formal invitations, have them call their friends. If you prefer to send invitations, (Aren't we the ambitious one?) try Evites, where you can send a free online invitation. You can send a Halloween template, or create your own! Remember to have some sort of theme (Besides Halloween) before you send your invites. The best solution for that, is pajama costumes. More on that below.

Be sure you have plenty of your own gruesome treats ready for the party. Get those earplugs ready (so YOU can get some sleep that night). You want the party to be fun, but don't stress yourself, the fun part for you should be planning this, so relax and enjoy!

Now let's really start planning!

Tasty Treats for the Tweens on Halloween

Kitty Litter Cake

Because you just HAVE to have fun foods on Halloween (for your tween, or you're mean...oh make me stop)

Here is a tried but true gross out idea! Kitty Litter cake? Yummm Yummm! Here is a pretty quick recipe courtesy of ehow.

What you will need:

# CAKE INGREDIENTS:
# 1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
# 1 box of white cake mix
# 1 package white sandwich cookies
# 1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
# A few drops green food coloring
# 12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent
# SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
# 1 NEW cat-litter box
# 1 NEW cat-litter box liner
# 1 NEW pooper scooper

1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in a 13 x 9 pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper.

Fun or Scarey Halloween Costumes

Let your Halloween Howl be Heard!

Some prefer fun costumes such as animals, or toothpaste or television characters. There are others who prefer the tried and true spooky and scarey costumes. It's all good and the objective is to have fun, right?

I love scary movies but I love bright and fun costumes the best.

I lean toward funny. Case in point, my security word? Goofhead.

Pajama Costumes?

It's a Mom Idea

One thing you can do is see what kind of cute costumes the kids can come up with wearing pajamas! That's convenient for a sleepover, no? You could do a "backwards pajama" theme, or mis-matched pajamas, or anything else you can come up with.

You have the costumes, you have the gruesome food, the Movies, and probably a bunch of giggling girls. It's time to darken the lights and put on that Scary Movie!
