Twilight Books

The first book twilight took three months to write and was written without any book deal or publishing house notified, in fact it is said that Stephanie Meyer never intended to publish this book. It was only after Meyers sister read the book that it was agreed to start looking for a publisher.

The plot of the first book works on a teenage girl called Isabella Swan (who prefers to be called Bella) who moves from her mothers in Pheonix, Arizona to her fathers house in the small town of Forks, Washington. Upon arrival in Forks Bella is soon making friends and having many boys vy for her attention.

Edward Cullen

The one boy that does interest Bella is Edward Cullen. The first day Bella sits next to Edward he seems repulsed by herbut over time starts to warm towards her. This comes to a climax when Bella is nearly run over and Edward saves her by moving like lightening and using extraordinary strength to stop the van with his hands.

Bella decides to investigate how Edward had the strength and speed to save her in the way he did. To do this Bella speaks to family friend Jacob Black who is a native Indian and tells Bella the story of a local legend in which his tribe are decended from Wolves and of Vampires.

Bella decides that Edward and his family must be Vampires, something Edward admits. Over time a loving relationship between Bella and Edward occurs, athough Edward Cullen admits he desires the scent of Bellas blood.

Vampire Coven

Things change for the worse though when a Vampire coven heads into the town, this includes a tracker Vampire called James who becomes extremely interested in the relationship of a Vampire and Human (Edward and Bella). Things go wrong as James decides to hunt Bella for sport. To combat this Edwards family (The Cullens) tell James that Bella and Edward have split up then send Bella into hiding in a hotel in Phoenix.

James the Vampire finds and attacks Bella biting her hand. Edward and his family come to Bella's rescue killing James, but finding Bella had been bitten and could die, or worse become a Vampire Edward sucks the venom from her blood. After this ordeal Bella goes to hospital and returns to Forks where she attends the Prom with Edward, the film ends with Bella wishing to become a Vampire and Edward refusing to change her.

The second book in the series starts with Bella just turning eighteen. On her birthday Edwards family throw her a party at their house but while opening presents Bella gets a paper but causing Edwards brother Jasper to attempt to kill Bella because of the scent of her blood.

Because of this happening and to protect Bella for the future Edward ends their relationship and his family along with Edward move away from Forks.

Bella becomes depressed but soon learns that high adrenalin, thrill seeking activities cause here to hear Edwards voice. Part of this thrill seeking adventure sees Bella take two broken motorbikes to Jacob Black, a family friend. Jacob and Bella work together to rebuild the motorbikes causing their friendship to blossom and Bellas pain at the loss of Edward to wain.

Wolves

It is during this time that two Vampires called Laurent and Victoria come back to Forks to kill Bella in revenge for the death of Vampire James (from the first book). Bella learns that Jacob and other members of his native Indian tribe are shape shifters who become wolves, this comes about as Jacob and his tribe protect Bella from Laurent and Victora.

The Volturi

While all this is going on in Forks Edward is led to believe through a breakdown in communication that Bella has died by commiting suicide. Edward is a broken man...or should we say Vampire...because of this news and flees to Italy to see the Vampire royalty called the Volturi to provoke them into killing him.

Edwards sister Alice comes to Forks and tells Bella so they rush to Italy to save Edward and manage to arrive in time to stop Edward from being killed. Unfortunate times are ahead as the Volturi tell Edward that Bella must die or be changed into a Vampire as she is a human who knows of Vampires existance.

Edward promises to change Bella just to get the Volturi to allow her to live, Edward, Alica and Bella then return to Forks where Edward tells Bella he only left to protect her and that he has always loved her. Bella Forgives Edward and the Cullens take a vote in which it is voted to change Bella into a Vampire, Edward is not happy about this but gives Bella two choices.

1. Let Carlisle change her after her graduation
2. Marry Edward and he will change her

The third book of the Twilight series.

The book starts with a spate of unsolved murders happening in Seattle, Washington that Edward believes is being caused by a newly turned Vampire who is unable to control their blood lust.

Everyone is applying for colleges after graduation and Bella tells Edward she wishes to still see her friend Jacob Black, Edward is not happy as he fears for her safety but Bella says that Jacob and his people would never harm her. Edwards sister Alice Cullen in the meantime has a vision that Victoria, the Vampire seeking revenge on Bella has returned to Forks.

Vampire Army

Edward proposes to Bella who accepts even though she does not like what marriage is. After this is it found by Bella and the Cullen family that the murders in Seattle are not caused by one new Vampire suffering from blood lust but in fact a whole army of new Vampires controlled by the Vampire Victoria.

To stop this army of new Vampires everything changes as the Cullens and Jacobs tribe/wolf pack join forces. As the battle is being made ready Jacob and Edward (along with Seth Clearwater of Jacobs pack) take Bella into the mountains to hide her and protect her during the battle.

Love and War

While hiding out in the mountains Jacob hears Bella and Edward discussing their upcoming nuptuals and threatens to go to battle to kill himself. To stop Jacob from doing this Bella kisses him then realises she is in fact in love with both Jacob and Edward.

While all this is going on the evil Vampire Victoria manages to find the scent of Edward and follows it to the hide out where he is forced to fight. After huge battles both Victoria and her army are destroyed.

Bella tells Jacob of her love for him but also that her love for Edward is stronger, Bella and Edward send Jacob a wedding invitation later on causing Jacob to turn into a wolf and run away heartbroken and angry.

Since the success of the books the first two books have since been turned into hugely successful films. The first film Twilight was directed by Catherine Hardwicke with the second New Moon directed by Chris Weitz.

The third Twilight film Eclipse finished shooting at the end of October 2009 and is directed by David Slade. The film is due for release on June 30, 2010 although this is a tentative date and could change. Many film goers are eagerly awaiting its release.

The Twilight series films star Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black.

The Twilight series of books and films are geared towards the young adult audience and is of a fantasy and romance genre. Even though the books and film are for a younger audience, people of all ages have grown to love both the films and books giving the series an almost cult following.
