Who's Hot and Who's Not in Twilight

This is my "dream team" for Twilight characters, the way I see them when I read the books (along with trivia & vital stats for each). A few are actually from the movie, where they cast someone who is just as I pictured, but in most cases ... I was not so happy. I read the books just before they began casting, so I had a firm picture in my head before I ever saw the actors cast for the movie.

It seems that in most cases matching the actors physically to their descriptions in the book went out the window; it can't be that hard to do, as movies such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter did a splendid job of matching actors to characters. Not to mention little annoyances like the fact that since their hair doesn't grow, the vampires would pretty much have the hairstyles of a bygone era, not modern 'dos (although that's not a casting gripe so much as a costuming gripe).

A few characters I am still looking for that perfect face so in the meanwhile I may or may not have a "still better than the movie" face as placeholder, but rest assured I'm looking for the whole cast.

The statistics and trivia on the characters comes either directly from the books or from Stephenie Meyer's personal correspondence or website.

This is actually musician Charlie Sexton, from, umm, a really, really long time ago, whose song "Impressed" should be Bella & Edward's theme song - another reason why this picture is perfect for Edward. (Note that I don't think Edward looks like Charlie Sexton, but I do think Charlie sometimes looks like Edward.)

She seems to have an easier time connecting with nonhumans than with humans. She also seems to be exceptionally perceptive or intuitive, and is impervious to any kind of mental intrusion from vampires gifted in that area.

The *New* Bella 

BELLA CULLEN
So how does Bella look after her transformation? She still looks like Bella, but more beautiful - I think this one fits perfectly! She actually looks like Bella, but is much more gorgeous (sorry, Kristen).

The actor they cast for Jake in the movie is a pretty good Jake. I haven't found anyone I like better, at any rate - though really he is only a good Jake for Twilight. He needs to look much older by the end of New Moon after his wolfy growth spurt.

The Perfect Alice 

MARY ALICE BRANDON CULLEN
They did a great job casting in the movie, but I think this Alice has an edge over the movie Alice. The pixie features, the uppity hair, the mischievous eyes. The big, innocent eyes especially are what finally decided me for this Alice rather than the movie Alice. Who could bet against this face?

"The short girl was pixie-like, thin in the extreme, with small features. Her hair was deep black, cropped short and pointing in every direction. The Perfect Jasper 

JASPER WHITLOCK HALE
Here's a movie star who looks like a movie star, which is what Jasper is supposed to look like. And his face is very Jaspery to me; his eyes are very compelling which I always picture with Jasper since he is always looking beneath the surface to the emotions underneath. He looks like a guy who, as a human, had a lot of empathy that translated into his emotion-manipulation talent after transformation.

JACKSON WHO?
Do I need to say more than "have you seen Jackson Rathbone's hair in the movie trailer pix"? Well, I will. Cute kid, but he doesn't look like someone with the strength of character to have climbed to the rank of major in the Civil War by age 20, and subsequently survived 100 years of vicious vampire warfare.

WHO IS THIS REALLY?
This is a very young Karl Urban, most famously known as Eomer in The Lord of the Rings. Where he was also very well cast.

Jasper has been a vampire longer than any of the Cullens except Carlisle. He frequently poses as Rosalie's twin because they look very alike, and adopts her human last name, Hale, because she won't give hers up. Since he feels human emotions, he becomes depressed when he feeds from humans, but he still has a harder time refraining than the others do.

EMMETT MCCARTY CULLEN
Okay, I know he needs darker hair, and curly; but the expression, the attitude, the quirky eyebrow, and even the mini-goatee - this picture just screams Emmett to me! He looks like a big, cheerful guy who thinks straight through his muscles and doesn't have a care in the world.

KELLAN WHO?
Kellan Lutz has the right build, though he doesn't really have dark, curly hair either. But they forgot to look for "big cuddly teddy bear" when they were casting.

Teen bodybuilder Jody Westby-Hanalei.

He'll do anything for his Rosy, including standing up in multiple wedding ceremonies when she decides she wants one.

The Almost-Perfect Rosalie 

ROSALIE LILLIAN HALE
I have to say "almost" perfect because I figure maybe this is what Rosalie looked like when she was the most beautiful human girl around, before she was transformed into something even more staggeringly gorgeous.

I do think Nikki Reed is very pretty, but in an all-American kind of way, not a startlingly gorgeous kind of way. We are talking about someone who was head-turningly beautiful as a human, and transformed to transcendant beauty as a vampire. Nikki's nice, but no Rosalie. Besides, she looks ... odd with blonde hair. Her own dark hair looks much better with her skin tone, and she looks much prettier that way.

Close second: actress Portia de Rossi.

CARLISLE CULLEN
Other than the fact that he is as gorgeous as the rest of them, and blond, Carlisle isn't described too much. Descriptions of him focus on his force of character, his compassion, and his amazing willpower.

This is the sweet, loving Esme.

ELIZABETH WHO?
Elizabeth Reaser might be ... okay. She's a bit old at 33 for 26-year-old Esme, though, and it shows. She's pretty enough but there is nothing in particular that shouts "Esme" at me.

WHO IS THIS REALLY?
Celtic Songbird Méav, who has the sweet, caring quality combined with knock-out good looks that Esme needs.

ESME RUNNER-UP
Very, very close second: Janet Gaynor, who really was a silent film star.
