Twin Peaks - The Definitive Gold Box Edition

Twin Peaks - The Definitive Gold Box Edition (The Complete Series)

Amazon Price: $74.99 (as of 10/12/2008)

The body of a young girl (Laura Palmer) is washed up on a beach near the small Washington state town of Twin Peaks. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is called in to investigate her strange demise only to uncover a web of mystery that ultimately leads him deep into the heart of the surrounding woodland and his very own soul.

A Brief Overview Of Twin Peaks

Set in the fictional Washington town of the same name, Twin Peaks isn't as idyllic and picturesque as it would first appear. After a local high school girl is found dead and wrapped in plastic by one of the locals, a chain of events sees Special Agent Dale Cooper of the FBI assigned to investigate this unusual murder. As he scratches the surface however, it becomes apparent that nobody is without their secrets.

Along the way, Agent Cooper, aided by the local sheriff, attempts to unravel the mystery and finds that Laura Palmer, the murdered high school homecoming queen was leading a double life and wasn't the sweet and innocent girl that she would have people believe. The idiosyncratic FBI agent even interprets his dreams along with other unorthodox methods to help solve the crime, something you wouldn't see in your average crime drama.

Seamlessly blending together a supernatural and sometimes darkly comedic tone with a deep vein of surrealism, Twin Peaks is truly unique and one of the greatest experiences that modern television has to offer.

The Music Of Twin Peaks

The music of Twin Peaks was composed by Angelo Badalamenti, who worked with David Lynch of a number of his projects, including Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.

Some of the songs from the soundtrack are voiced my female vocalist Julee Cruise, and are taken from her debut album, Floating in the Night, which was released in 1989. During her early career, she was a frequently collaborator with both Lynch and Badalamenti, who wrote and produced her songs, respectively. She can even be seen in the show, performing at The Roadhouse, with her songs "Falling", "The Nightingale", "Rockin' Back Inside My Heart" and "The World Spins".

To date, three Twin Peaks soundtrack CD's have been released, one featuring music from the first season, one focusing on music from the prequel movie, and another featuring music from the second season, the pilot and the movie. The most recent soundtrack, "Season Two Music and More" was released in October 2007 to coincide with the new Gold Box Edition DVD release of the series. It should also be noted that in 1990, Angelo Badalamenti won a Grammy award for the best pop instrumental performance with the Twin peaks theme.

So Just Where Is The Real Twin Peaks?

Which Twin Peaks Character Are You?

You're Special Agent Dale Cooper. You're often too brilliant for people to really follow, but your infectious enthusiasm makes up for the fact that you're frequently incomprehensible. You are smart, intuitive, clear-headed, compassionate, and cute as hell -- about your only flaw is your insane coffee consumption.
