Twinkie Love... Can You Feel It?

PhotobucketLet's face it, Twinkies is a household name. These yummy snack cakes have come a long way since they were first introduced, in 1930.

Over 500 million Twinkies are sold, each year. Original Twinkies sold for two for a nickel and were filled with banana cream filling.

It was the banana shortage, during World War II, that was responsible for the switch to vanilla flavored filling.

Twinkies have been featured in blockbuster movies such as Ghostbusters, Sleepless in Seattle and Grease... and on the classic TV series, All in the Family.

It takes 10 minutes to bake a Twinkie, but just a few seconds to eat one. Ask the city of Chicago. More Twinkies are consumed there, per capita, than any other city in the U.S.

This lens is a trip down memory lane. I remember the excitment at school when I would reach into my lunchbox and find a Twinkie inside. I would love to try the deep fried version. Limit one per year........trans fats.

I remember all the different creams in the middle like banana, isn't it great that somethings survive for generations? Twinkies is one of those comfort foods ;)

Have you ever heard of the Twinkies Project at Rice University? Twinkies for tested for their response to: solubility, oxidation, gravity, maximum density, etc.
