There are many types of dog training collars out on the market. This lens will hopefully help you decide which one is right for you.

 

The world marketplace has seen an explosion in the number of applications and types of electronic dog training collars available today. As time has proven their reliability and humaneness, these systems have become more accepted by everyone from professional trainers to simple companion dog owners. There are high-end and low-end Ecollars, and there are Ecollars for just about every type of training need. The following is an overview of what to expect to see on the market:

Tri-tronics 

A quality brand, Tri-Tronics offers a three-tiered product level. The Sport Series product line features a compact handheld transmitter, a completely waterproof system, a range of approximately ½ mile, and the ability to add up to three additional collars to the system. (At an extra charge.) The next in the line, the Field Series, offers an amazing range of up to one mile, and 24 programmable intensity level settings. The Pro Series, the highest-end series Tri-Tronics offers, boasts extended battery life, two hour charge time to full capacity, 100% waterproof, and the expandability to add multiple dogs to the system. Prices in these series range from $99 to $520.

Innotek 

Innotek's most basic model electronic training collar features an integrated, fully enclosed receiver. This means that, unlike other models and other manufacturers, the receiver is not a separate part of the collar. The Ultra Smart model also features self-diagnostic capabilities, and proper fit testing abilities. The ranges of this system are up to 1000 yards, and feature multiple tones. The Command Series offers an increased range across all models, and improved durability. The transmitter features an LCD screen, and emits up to 15 different intensity levels. The Field Pro series offers a range of up to one mile. These models are 100% waterproof, and are multi-dog/collar capable. The Field Pro offers fade free protection to ensure consistent application of stimulation when range reception is sporadic. Innotek prices range from $95 - $300.

Dogtra  

The Dogtra Obedience Series electronic training collar is suited for owners of companion dogs. These systems have 400 yard and 1000 yard ranges, and therefore are perfect for obedience training. The collars feature momentary and constant stimulation modes, as well as possessing a vibration or pager feature. The Dogtra Field Series boasts 16 stimulation levels, and the ability to monitor and control up to four dogs simultaneously. This series offers a range of up to ½ mile. The Pro Series is the highest-end product that Dogtra offers. The Pro Series offers a range of up to one mile, and has an amazing 127 levels of stimulation intensity settings. The Pro Series was designed specifically for the very serious hunter or trainer. The system is extremely durable, is fully waterproof, and has rechargeable batteries that charge quicker and stay charged longer than most other units on the market.

    Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I am a dog trainer and I recommend all of the E-collars you mentioned. I use them on my own dogs occasionally and the minute the collar is around their neck I don't even have to turn it on! One of my dogs is a barker and when his barking is just too much, I put the E collar on him without activating it and he stops that constant, irritating barking. He is a Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mountain dog mix so it's in his genetics to protect. Although I appreciate him very much, I don't need protection from the neighborhood cats!!! :-D
