IS Ubuntu the best Linux Distribution?

I love Ubuntu. It is so fast, easy to install and use. It comes with Firefox, OpenOffice, and Gimp already installed. It doesn't hurt that Ubuntu looks good as well!

I have used Fedora 10, Mandriva and Fedora 7, I have to say Ubuntu 8.10 is the most compatible software for my Dell Dimension e510. I do enjoy the fact that there are apps built-in. Well design Operating System.

Best support for drivers and never once crashed -- ability to install the manufacturer's drivers if I want rather than forcing me to have only open source drivers when both are free.

UBUNTU 7.04 which I have used is stable on Dell systems and drivers. I have tried other versions that although have a great look are simply not compatable with dell. its a great FREE alternative. For the Basic computer user who doesnt use propriatary software.

While I use Ubuntu on several computers and love it, I wouldn't say it is necessarily the best. However, I would say it is the best for a new user who wants to learn how to use Linux.

I used Ubuntu for about a year and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread because I didn't really need to know jack about Linux to use it. Once I started learning more I tried some different distributions and I'm currently running Debian testing (with plans on sticking with it) which I've found to be superior to Ubuntu in stability, performance and overall control over the OS.
I don't think there is such a thing as "the best Linux distribution" anyways, everybody has their favorites and its really just a matter of personal preferences.

Well ubuntu is unstable. I was have a lot of problems with graphic interface. Gentoo is 2x stable and faster then ubuntu. Gentoo finish sql select in ~9 seconds, Ubuntu finish same sql select for ~22 seconds, and gentoo never stop working:D

I've had a better experience with PCLinuxOS and Mepis. Better interfece, hardware recognition, wireless without any configuration; I'm a computer analyst, so configuring isn't a problem, I just didn't think much of Ubuntu.

When you come to know Linux better, I think Debian may be the best distro.
