Recently, BusinessWeek magazine reports on a list of the "Best Home-Based Business Ideas" as compiled by Homestead Technologies. Here are the magazine's suggestions, as reported by Karen E. Klein.

1. Garage Organizer - An onslaught of home makeover and interior design shows has put the focus on the importance of the organization of living spaces. Training is not required for this business.

3. Outsourcing your specialized skills to small businesses with limited budgets can be a lucrative way to earn a living. Also known as freelancing or consulting depending on your field. Examples of home-based outsourcing opportunities: customer service agent, debt collection agency, conducting background checks for potential employers,

4. Pet sitting - the pet service industry is a very large market, with pet owners spending over $34 billion per year on their furry and feathered companions. Pet owners who travel might not want to leave their animal caged up in a boarding facility, and those are the people you want to market to.

5. Digital photography - This business is based on the supposition that "we all have these digital cameras that take beautiful pictures, but they are all stuck online or in a camera." Over this past year I've decided that I want to earn a living from writing. I had already published two "how-to" articles in a jewelry magazine, and I think that I have a decent command of the English language.
