JoeTedesco says:

I'd have to say USC, but this rivalry doesn't even compare to Redsox Yankees...we're talking over a hundred years here. If you throw in the two cities it goes back to before the revolutionary war.

You however, have put together an outstanding lens. When I did my lens it was a toss up between these two and Kansas/Kansas State (another rivalry that transcends the field).

UCLA-USC Rivalry on Wikipedia

The UCLA-USC rivalry is the college rivalry between two universities located in Los Angeles, California: the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Southern California.

The athletic competition rivalry between the two schools is among the more notable in NCAA Division I sports because both schools are located within the same city. The campuses are only ten miles apart. The sheer proximity of both alumni and students, and the likelihood of encountering each other and interacting on a daily basis make this one of the most intense college rivalries in the United States.

UCLA vs. USC: 75 Years of the Greatest Rivalry in Sports

Amazon Price: $22.76 (as of 07/26/2008)
Used Price: $3.13

I absolutely LOVE this fabulous anthology of the two greatest athletic departments in America! Lonnie White approaches this subject in a manner that I find to be unique to USC and UCLA; one that is particular to non-Southern Californians...

What is also great about this is it is not just about football. UCLA basketball, track, volleyball, baseball. . . the only school with more big leaguers than UCLA is USC. The only school with more NCAA track titles than UCLA IS USC...

Read this one. --Steven Travers, author of The USC Trojans, College Football's All-Time Greatest Dynasty

The Lexus Gauntlet

UCLA and USC see who can throw down harder

The Lexus Gauntlet is a year-long all sports competition between UCLA and USC. The series began in 2001-2002.

UCLA and USC compete against one another in the following sports with the point total for each sport listed. In the event of a tie in the season series in a particular sport, both universities will split the point total for the sport equally. For those sports that do not compete head-to-head, PAC-10 and/or NCAA competition are used to determine the season series winner. For sports with multiple events, such as men's and women's track and women's swimming, the dual meet finish of the teams is used to award the points in each to the winner.

The 18 sports listed below are worth a total of 110 points. Football, women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball account for 10 points each; the 14 other sports are worth 70 points -- five points per sport. Tiebreakers are also included to settle the series.

Since the inception of the competition, USC and UCLA have traded victories, with no school winning two in a row.

UCLA Basketball vs. USC Football

Each school's history is unsurpassed, except perhaps by each other!

VS

UCLA Basketball and USC Football are the two most storied programs in their respective sports*. Each team has won 11 national titles, has been coached by legends in the sport, and is currently at the top of its game thanks to coaches Ben Howland and Pete Carroll.

For every Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton produced within UCLA's basketball program, USC's football team has developed a Marcus Allen and Ronnie Lott. But that doesn't mean one can't be more impressive than the other! Check out below for amazing records held by the UCLA Basketball and USC Football Teams.
