Your first Lens? Another name for a web page, only easier and quicker.

This Lens is designed to help in the first 5 mins of creating your new Squidoo Lens. It is not hard or difficult and is very beneficial. We have created some simple instructions and explained what is happening. You must be 18 to own a Lens.

Additional help is provide with links to more information. Have lots fun, and remember no spamming.

First time you have been to Squidoo? 

First time you have been to Squidoo, no problem. We hope to provide you with some basic information to get you started. This should take under 5 minutes to create.

Creating a "Lens" the name given by Squidoo for a structured webpage is very straightforward. The benefits of having a number of Lenses is that each can contain information about you, your company or organisation and feed this back to your existing website, increasing your page ranking. Photographs, images text and some html code is also supported.

Squidoo has an association with the major search engine Google and indexes the Lens often within 48 hours, which is a lot quicker than normal to get rated.

So onto the basic Lens creation. 

If you are not already a Squidoo member you will need to register, this can be updated later if you need to change your profile.

1. Click on "Make a new Lens" on the right hand side.This will then ask what is your Lens about. This can be changed later.
2. We suggest leaving the existing selected button for now.
3. Select a unique name. This is the same as a normal web page name and must be unique to Squidoo. Under the menu select a topic, there is a number of overall categories, select the best for your Lens. Non-adult Lens will normally use the G rating.
4. After your Lens name has been accepted. Enter 3 keywords for your Lens, again you can update this info later.

There is a time delay in the information being updated, as all information is held online.

Do not panic, what you see is the basic Lens structure with standard modules 

These modules can be deleted and new ones added very easily. The main ones for now are the "Introduction" module and the "Text/write" module.

When entering data, remember to save, and save as a draft before Publishing.

Tip. All images must be store on an online server IE, your website if you plan to include images into your Lens.

What next? 

There is a great search facility, type "Squidoo help" and
there is lots of info. The main focus of most of the Lenses is American as Squidoo is fairly new, that's why we now have some UK and European groups

    I've tried 3 times to publish my first page and every time I click publish, I just get a blank page and when I go back into squidoo, it hasn't been published.

    I've spent 2 or 3 hours trying to get this 5 minute page published!
