What is a Trustee?

A trustee is a person who is either elected or appointed to a charitable board, and has certain obligations to that board. Generally, trustees take an oath to uphold the mission of the charity, and state that they understand the legal responsibilities of the role. They may also have to declare any conflicts of interest and to be a dues-paying member of the organisation.

Why become a Trustee?

Individuals may want to become trustees for various reasons, but most importantly, they must believe in the mission of the charity and want to work towards that outcome. They help grow, manage and provide resources to further the aims of the charity.

Becoming a trustee can give individuals a way to help those less fortunate. And it can also give individuals a way to put their commercial knowledge and skills to use in a charitable environment.
