22. Roger vs. Dave: Which One's Pink?
Who Deserves to Carry On the Pink Floyd Name Today?
If there's one debate that ignites Pink Floyd fans to this day, it's the Roger vs. Dave wars. When Roger decided to leave Pink Floyd after "The Final Cut", he thought the band was over. Not so. David decided to continue on with the Pink Floyd name along with Nick Mason and later also with Richard Wright. Lawsuits and legal battles followed as Roger fought to keep David from touring and recording under the Pink Floyd name. Do you think Pink Floyd is still Pink Floyd without Roger Waters? Sound off on where you stand on this oft-debated issue.

Gilmour is the soul of the band. For me anyway, the guitar is a big part of the voice of the Pink Floyd stuff I like.

The three remaining members had every right to be Pink Floyd. Roger left, plain and simple. No one man is Pink Floyd, not even Syd.

Legally David is well within his rights and I don't think Roger would dispute that. For me, it's just too bad the organization can't carry on in both their names,

Vanessa says:
Do I really have to choose? Though I firmly believe that the ones who really carry one the Floyd name are all the band members, their fans, and all the people that have contributed to each of their projects, from the roadies to the graphic artists. However, if I were to pick someone, it would be David Gilmour. Roger Waters seems like he more focused on The Wall than any other piece of Floyd history while Gilmour borrows from what he's learned over the years and infuses it in the sound for his later works like On An Island and The Orb.

LJ says:
Roger Waters, because he was one of the band's founding members and its dominant creative force. Not only does he continue to tour The Wall (a concert about himself!), bringing a Floyd classic to a generation too young to have seen it first time around (such as myself!) but he brought the band back together for Live-8. Yes, his earlier attitude contributed to the band's acrimonious split, but Gilmour's solo career is quite apart from the Floyd.
Posted July 09, 2011
sockii says:
It's a tough call, because I did enjoy seeing the Floyd tours of 87 and 94 lead by Gilmour. But there's a part of me that can't except a Floyd without Roger's vision, lyrics and concepts to this day, and the two studio albums produced after his departure may be musically pleasing but seem to lack that something special that made their previous work truly "The Floyd".

24. Is Pink Floyd The Greatest Rock Band of All Time?

26. Will Pink Floyd Ever Reunite Again?
Is There a Future for Pink Floyd Still?
The last time that Roger Water, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright performed together as Pink Floyd was during the Live 8 festival in July 2005. On May 12, 2010, David Gilmour joined Roger Waters on stage to perform "Comfortably Numb" but swore this was a one-time only event (Nick Mason joined them both briefly for the show finale, "Outside the Wall".)
Sadly, Richard Wright passed away in 2008 so a reunion show, tour or album featuring the primary four members of the band is no longer a possibility. But do you think Roger, Nick and Dave will ever reunite again, and in what capacity? Leave your thoughts and prediction here.
My prediction
I don't believe Pink Floyd will ever tour again (in ANY line-up), but I wouldn't put another one-off appearance past them.

Technology will replicate the band down to the last detail in time. Then it will be let loose to recreate no only music we know they did, but music they might have done as well. In 20 years, many of us will be able to hear new music from Pink Floyd, including Syd. It will all be created using mind boggling algorithms based on every song, every note, and every word they ever wrote or played. You won't even be able to tell what they actually did from what they could have (and will do) done. The real age of rock and roll as not even begun yet, only the foundations for it have been laid. Embrace the future and its power, for it will shine on brighter then ever someday, I AM SURE OF THIS!
