Uluru the heart of Australia
Uluru is the world's largest monolith and an Aboriginal sacred site it is one of Australia's most famous natural landmark.
You can climb the tough 1.6km ascent to the top of Uluru or take a walking tour around the rock with an aboriginal guide who will tell fascinating tales of its importance in the aborginal dreamtime legend.
The aborginal people would prefer it if you did not climb Uluru, however it is not against the law to do so and the view from the top is spectactuar.
Uluru information - Ayres rock by another name
Uluru is a huge rock formation in the middle of Australia.
Uluru is located inKata Tjuta National Park, 280 miles (450km) southwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. If you don't fancy walking around Ayers Rock, you should at least watch it during sunrise or sunset, when the rock changes colours, from greys, to browns, to reds, to oranges, to yellows. The colours at sunrise and sunset are intense and vibrant, it will be a picture to hold onto for a lifetime.
