True or False?

If Christianity is false, it is of no importance. If Christianity is true, it is of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is of moderate importance. -C.S. Lewis

"The Bible is like a telescope. If a man looks through his telescope then he sees worlds beyond; but if he looks at his telescope, then he does not see anything but that. The Bible is a thing to be looked through, to see that which is beyond, but most people only look at it; and so they see only the dead letter." -Phillips Brooks

Now that I am a Christian I do not have moods in which the whole thing looks very improbable: but when I was an atheist I had moods in which Christianity looked terribly probable. -C.S. Lewis

Why am I making this lens?

"This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic." James 3:15

MrLewisSmile has written a piece titled "The Lunacy of Religion". I would like the opportunity to offer a response to his hard work. I recommend you read both lenses one topic at a time. I pray that if you are considering Atheism you will read both of our lenses and then research on your own before making a decision. If you are a Christian I pray you will see that showing love, patience and wisdom is the only way to respond to anyone, including those with differing opinions. Far to many times Christians speak without thinking first. An Atheist has spent a considerable amount of time in deciding to become an Atheist and more than likely has a response on standby to anything you say.

I believe a huge problem today in all walks of life is acting on emotion. I must admit I suffer from the dreaded foot in mouth disease at times myself. Someone told me once that my view point was innocuous on a certain matter. I got mad! I didn't even know what innocuous means; I just got mad; silly huh? We must set in course our actions and allow our emotions to follow action NOT the other way around.

  1. Psalm 14:1
  2. What I think of Atheists

Psalm 14:1

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." - Psalms 14:1

What does the psalmist mean by fool? The term "fool" is in reference to a group of people who have closed their minds off to God and His word, NOT uneducated people. According to Merriam-Webster's dictionary the definition of an Atheist is: one who believes that there is no deity. Is Atheism truly based on logic and knowledge or is it a control issue? I have caused a few car accidents; my wife has been in none. I am almost always the one to drive when our family goes somewhere. My reasoning is I want to be in control of the car should an emergency present itself with my family in the car. If I base my reasoning on statistics and facts, my wife is the wiser choice to be at the helm.

The practice of Atheism appears to revolve around seeking the desires of your own heart under the cloak of finding truth in reasoning rather than embracing the longing are all born with: seeking the truth which is God.

When I was a small child I remember wanting a bowie knife for Christmas. One year, I got my wish. After I nearly cut my finger off, I soon grew tired of the knife and lost it. Later, all I wanted was a remote control car; I soon lost interest. A few years later all I wanted was to fit in with the kids at school and be popular; after joining the football team, sleeping with dozens of girls and partying every weekend I soon grew bored with that also. After numerous attempts at filling the desires of my heart the void was never satisfied, only doused with temporal pleasures. I also realized another important life lesson, with each fulfilled desire of my heart, I wanted more and more to replace the latest desire! It was not until I gave into the longing for God that the void became a home for the Holy Spirit, a God that can never die and amazingly enough the more of Him I want the more of Him I get, the only obstacle is when I get in the way with my own selfish desires.

Again and again in China I talked to people who had never heard of Christianity, never heard of Jesus, never heard a single word from the Bible. Yet through nature and their God-given conscience, many believed in God. Not only did they believe God existed, they had derived some understanding about His loving character because he provided food, water, and a beautiful world. One old woman told me, "I've known him for years. I just didn't know his name." -Michael Card

An Atheist will be quick to tell you that there is no proof of God therefore it is foolish to believe in God.

If I told you this web page built itself and just came to be, you would say I am an idiot and know that it was created. Look at how amazingly intricate you are made! Why is it easier to believe you evolved from a Monkey than to believe in intelligent design? Given the two scenarios for our own existence between an intelligent being and a random occurrence we must take into consideration a common characteristic of the two: created by intelligence or created out of stupidity. Which characteristic have you inherited?

Endless supplies in the proof of God have been discovered such as archeological discoveries and most importantly the bible itself (more below) but what it will boil down to in the eyes of an Atheist is can you see or touch God?

What I think of Atheists:

I believe many Atheists are kind and caring people. I do not believe Atheists are stupid as proposed. Simply put, you cannot take the views from a few Christians and base that as an agreed opinion. As you know, we are as different as a frog and a dog!

In short, I do NOT think less of the author for his beliefs and I am saddened but not surprised that he thinks less of me for my beliefs.

"And I think less of them (Christians and Religious people) for their beliefs too." -MrLewisSmile

Conversational Intolerance

Lewis: "If you are a religious person and you can make a case for why you don't believe in fairies or mermaids or Zeus, you have just successfully made the case for why I don't believe in your God too. So I treat religious belief with the same conversational intolerance as I would if the person just told me they were once abducted by aliens."

  • Paul Copan: "to place belief in Santa Claus or mermaids and belief in God on the same level is mistaken. The issue is not that we have no good evidence for these mythical entities; rather, we have strong evidence that they do not exist. Absence of evidence is not at all the same as evidence of absence, which some atheists fail to see."
  • Let's go deeper than this brother, what really bugs you? Is the only reason you wrote this section to justify talking about Christians

Assumptions

Yes, I know that saying about assuming =)

I have done research into why an Atheist is an Atheist in order to understand why one would choose this path. I did the research as if I was curious about becoming an Atheist. I have come to the conclusion that the only thing short of God coming to earth and taking the form of man and interacting with Atheists on their ground will prove pointless. Wait a minute that already happened.

In all the videos I have seen, literature I have read and websites I have visited I can make a few certain general observations:

  • Atheists are angry.
  • Christians don't know how to respond to an Atheist.
  • Both Atheists and Christians alike seem to use other people's views to respond to their own belief instead of truly digging deep and understanding each other and themselves.
  • Atheism is on the climb.

Dubunk With Love!

When this lens was only an idea, my initial plan was to debunk every topic listed on the "The Lunacy of Religion" but the further I advanced in my research the more I discovered the end of the discussion will result in the same conclusion for both sides: FAITH! Whether an Atheist will admit it or not he is a religious person with warriors of their faith such as Richard Dawkins in the same manor as Christians have Billy Graham.

What really bugs me the most is teaching that Christianity has done no good and only hurts mankind. This is a fallacy anyone can see, especially a supposed free thinking humanitarian! Instead of getting into a who can pee the furthest when we both know we are right, I will ask you to look into all the good Christianity has done for man kind, and sure an Atheist will have statements of Christians and crimes but once again are you going to judge an entire population based on the actions of a few?

Look at the atrocities Hitler committed! Do you believe every German is at fault? On that same note, look at the atrocities of Stalin, does that mean all Atheists are at fault?

p.s. to anyone who would like to discuss any of the topics on "The Lunacy of Religion" contact me and I will be honored to offer an apologetic to any topic and post them here.

  • "Why do we cross our fingers during turbulence, even the most atheistic among us?" asked Atran when we spoke at his Upper West Side pied-à-terre in January. Atran, who is 55, is an anthropologist at the National Center for Scientific Research in Paris, with joint appointments at the University of Michigan and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. His research interests include cognitive science and evolutionary biology, and sometimes he presents students with a wooden box that he pretends is an African relic. "If you have negative sentiments toward religion," he tells them, "the box will destroy whatever you put inside it." Many of his students say they doubt the existence of God, but in this demonstration they act as if they believe in something. Put your pencil into the magic box, he tells them, and the nonbelievers do so blithely. Put in your driver's license, he says, and most do, but only after significant hesitation. And when he tells them to put in their hands, few will. If they don't believe in God, what exactly are they afraid of?

A Few Good Quotes

  • If only God would give me some clear sign! Like making a large deposit in my name at a Swiss bank. -Woody Allen

  • A Russian astronaut and a Russian brain surgeon were once discussing religion. The brain surgeon was a Christian but the astronaut was not. The astronaut said, "I've been out in space many times but I've never seen God or angels." And the brain surgeon said, "And I've operated on many clever brains but I've never seen a single thought." -Jostein Gaardner

  • I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. -C. S. Lewis

  • It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument. -William G. McAdoo

  • The conflict is thus no longer between faith and reason but between a reasonable faith and a faithless reason. -Robert Morgan

  • The article cited new research saying that 91% of American women and 85% of men pray--but perhaps most amazing was the finding that one out of five atheists and agnostics prays each day! -Lee Strobel

  • On my door there's a cartoon of two turtles. One says, "Sometimes I'd like to ask why he allows poverty, famine, and injustice when he could do something about it." The other turtle says, "I'm afraid God might ask me the same question." -Peter Kreeft

Good and Evil / Right or Wrong?

Why? Ultimately, what the question we ask is why Atheism or Christianity? My personal answer is because I have found something that changes me, something that has made such an impact in my life that it has impacted and changed the lives of those around me.

I was once a skeptic and only found the verses in the bible that I could attack just like an Atheist does, I took Christianity and the bible and put them into a surface value category. Why? Because I had a few horrible encounters with religion. I failed to realize that the beliefs or views of a few religious people don't reflect Christianity as a whole.

Sadly, many churches may have the best intentions but are in fact flawed in their teaching of the inerrant bible. People make mistakes, no denying that. If you listen to an Atheist long enough you will usually hear the personal reason why they don't believe in God and most of the times it is from improper teaching of the bible. I admire Atheists for their passion in knowledge but unfortunately they seek the answers from within instead of feasting on the bible to discover for them what has been improperly taught such as believing that a person who has never heard the Gospel will burn eternally in torture. Atheists take views from the bible such as slavery and twist it into a condoning behavior encouraged by the bible which is ludicrous.

Why an Atheist believes that Christianity does more harm than good is beyond my understanding! Whether you believe in God or not, to deny the good that comes from the structured life of following Jesus is not proven by the many claims of an Atheist.

The Bible

I want to leave you with a challenge. If you are considering atheism, seek your answers in the bible first. Don't just look at the quotes other people have led you to. Whether you believe in the bible or not the bible is the best selling book known to mankind. The original manuscripts that make up the Bible were written over a 1,500 year time span by more than 40 authors from 3 seperate continents. These writers covered every walk of life including kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, and scholars yet they present one message. Such a miracle can only be explained by there being one divine Author, who was in control of all these human writers. There were no phones or email!

The Bible has proven itself historically accurate. No historical revelations disprove the Bible's account of history. New historical findings continue to verify the accuracy of the Bible's historical basis.

The Bible has proven to be archaeologically accurate. No archaeological evidence has ever been unearthed that disproves the Bible's account of civilizations and cultures that have existed since the beginning of man's life on earth.

The Bible has proven itself prophetically accurate. Hundreds of prophesies recorded in the Bible have been fulfilled to the letter, centuries after they were recorded. The only exceptions are those pertaining to the return of Jesus Christ to establish His reign on earth, and the subsequent establishing of the new heavens and the new earth.

Jesus bears witness to the Bible's inerrancy where He emphasizes that the actual written words of Scripture can be trusted, not just the ideas they contain. Jesus demonstrated the power of the words of Scripture to defeat Satan when he tempted Him. We have that same weapon available to us today - the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph. 6:17).

No one has ever successfully refuted the Bible. Many mock the Bible but avoid challenging it point by point. No one who has done in-depth research, honestly examining the evidence for the Bible's inspiration and truthfulness, has been able to disprove the Bible.

Books written by men have no unity of thought on even one subject. Some of them invariably disagree with others. But there is perfect unity between the books of the Bible -- which speak of hundreds of subjects in many fields. There is no contradiction among them.

Millions have acted on the Bible's commands and have testified to receiving its promises. Probably someone living near you has such a testimony. I have a testimony! Millions of individuals, as well as nations, have been changed for the better when they have accepted the Bible as the Word of God. More people on Earth today believe in Jesus Christ and the Bible as the Word of God than any other creed or philosophy. These millions of people have proved the claims of the Bible when its conditions were met. Wherever the Bible is accepted people are lifted up to a higher plane of life. The Bible message has changed the vilest sinners into the most loving saints. No other message ever has done that. Individuals, and even whole societies, have been transformed wherever the Bible has been believed and obeyed. The Bible's fruits have always been good and wholesome. Neglect of the Bible has always meant sin, suffering, and sorrow.

Examine the bible for yourself, ask God to reveal himself to you if you seek proof, you will have exactly the proof you need! I have found the truth and my life is an example and a testimony to truth; even though I am flawed the bible has not one single time failed to provide me with the nourishment I need in the core of my happiness, at that core I have found Love!

Christian Aid in Sri Lanka

Providing shelter, food and clean drinking water to those in need.

Christian Aid is working in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia - the areas most badly affected by the tsunami and earthquake. With our partner organisations, we are providing shelter, food and clean drinking water to those in need. We are also looking to aid the long-term reconstruction effort.

  • In Sri Lanka, an estimated 4,500 children lost one or both parents to the tsunami. Groups such as Christian Aid partner, the Active Theatre Movement, run drama workshops to help them come to terms with their loss. The children here, from Katkovalam village in Jaffna, take part in one of these drama groups.
copyright: Christian Aid / Tim A. Hetherington
  • Christian Aid works with 29 partner organisations in Sri Lanka, supporting rehabilitation work in the war and tsunami-affected north and east; with plantation workers in the central areas; and poor communities in the south.
  • 'Forgotten poor'
The Methodist Church department for Social Responsibility in Sri Lanka (DSPR) works with a community of 500 people, described as the 'forgotten poor', who live and work among the main rubbish dump in Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital city.

Since 2005 it has issued identity cards to the community which gives them legal access to the tip and allows them to earn a regular income.
  • Preparing for the future
Christian Aid's tsunami partner, Practical Action, has started the second year of its rehabilitation programme helping the poorest communities - those that suffer the worst effects of disasters - to prepare for the future.

Through discussions at national, district and village level, it has drawn up disaster preparedness plans, particularly for marginalised groups (people living with disabilities, the elderly and children).

You seam to ripeat allot of arguments that i consider refuted, and only cover your side of the argument. I realy wish you had given a fearer and less biast acount of the problem.
I am also slightly anoid with you refering to all athiests as angry, generaly the people who create content on the inernet feal crosser or more enraged about an issue but dont necesarily have any stronger vews about this kind of thing.

The Atheist Test

by Ray Comfort

I don't believe in atheists. This isn't because I haven't met people who claim the title, but because such a person cannot be. Let's imagine that you are a professing atheist. I will ask you two questions: First, do you know the combined weight of all the sand on all the beaches of Hawaii? I think I can safely assume that you don't. This brings us to the second question: Do you know how many hairs are on the back of a fully grown male Tibetan yak? Probably not. I think, therefore, that it is reasonable for me to conclude that there are some things you don't know. It is important to ask these questions because there are some people who think they know everything.

Let's say that you know an incredible one percent of all the knowledge in the universe. To know 100 percent, you would have to know everything. There wouldn't be a rock in the universe that you would not be intimately familiar with, or a grain of sand that you would not be aware of. You would know everything that has happened in history, from that which is common knowledge to the minor details of the secret love life of Napoleon's great-grandmother's black cat's fleas. You would know every hair of every head, and every thought of every heart. All history would be laid out before you, because you would be omniscient (all-knowing).

Bear in mind that one of the greatest scientists who ever lived, Thomas Edison, said, "We do not know a millionth of one percent about anything." Let me repeat: Let's say that you have an incredible one percent of all the knowledge in the universe. Would it be possible, in the ninety-nine percent of the knowledge that you haven't yet come across, that there might be ample evidence to prove the existence of God? If you are reasonable, you will be forced to admit that it is possible. Somewhere, in the knowledge you haven't yet discovered, there could be enough evidence to prove that God does exist.

Let's look at the same thought from another angle. If I were to make an absolute statement such as, "There is no gold in China," what is needed for that statement to be proven true? I need absolute or total knowledge. I need to have information that there is no gold in any rock, in any river, in the ground, in any store, in any ring, or in any mouth (gold filling) in China. If there is one speck of gold in China, then my statement is false and I have no basis for it. I need absolute knowledge before I can make an absolute statement. Conversely, for me to say, "There is gold in China," I don't need to have all knowledge. I just need to have seen a speck of gold in the country, and the statement is then true.

To say categorically, "There is no God," is to make an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is no God in the entire universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion.

If you insist upon disbelief in God, what you must say is, "Having the limited knowledge I have at present, I believe that there is no God." Owing to a lack of knowledge on your part, you don't know if God exists. So, in the strict sense of the word, you cannot be an atheist. The only true qualifier for the title is the One who has absolute knowledge, and why on earth would God want to deny His own existence?

The professing atheist is what is commonly known as an "agnostic"--one who claims he "doesn't know" if God exists. It is interesting to note that the Latin equivalent for the Greek word is "ignoramus." The Bible tells us that this ignorance is "willful" (Psalm 10:4). It's not that a person can't find God, but that he won't. It has been rightly said that the "atheist" can't find God for the same reason a thief can't find a policeman. He knows that if he admits that there is a God, he is admitting that he is ultimately responsible to Him. This is not a pleasant thought for some.

It is said that Mussolini (the Italian dictator), once stood on a pinnacle and cried, "'God, if you are there, strike me dead!" When God didn't immediately bow to his dictates, Mussolini then concluded that there was no God. However, his prayer was answered some time later.

HTMLinc.com - Full Service Web Hosting

HTMLinc.com - Full Service Web HostingWe finally went off the deep end! After years of service to local churches and families in crisis, HTMLinc has gone public offering the same care and quality web hosting, design and domain services at a very reasonable price. This is not a typical do it yourself web hosting company. Same technologies, same powerful data centers (speaking or data centers, our data center in Texas uses windmill technology to give back energy to the grid. Now that's going green!) and same high quality standards with some VERY important twists! Here are a few reasons why HTMLinc.com stands apart from the flooded world of web hosting:

* The most important reason is: HTMLinc.com conducts business according to the bible and not the world! The world sees nothing wrong with hosting sites with pornographic material or anti-Christ messages. HTMLinc.com will not nor every host a web site that goes against the teaching of the inerrant bible!

* Full Service Web Hosting! That's right, we do it all for you! We will custom design a 3 page site for you, setup as many email accounts as you need, update your site, maintain both your site and your domain, assist in SEO and much more!

* Mail Scanner and CSF firewall is used to prevent spam and hacker attacks! We had one business (Discount Filing) drop from over a 1000 spam emails a weekend down to under a dozen! Now that is serious protection!

* No resellers or over selling! That is right, if we say your site is allowed X amount of space and bandwidth, that is exactly what is allotted! Not many web hosts can say this. They know that if they offer you a large amount of space or bandwidth you will never use this much so they can get away with over selling their servers but this often comes back to bite them when the sites become popular or large stores, resulting in server errors and downtime! Not good...

* Member of the Hosting Code of Ethics.

* Satisfaction Guaranteed! Period! We conduct business according to Colossians 3:23 which says: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Using this passage as our guide we are pretty sure you will be satisfied with the services rendered, if not, we will gladly issue a refund!

About Forgiven

blog and work

I am a simple man with a wife, a baby fresh out of the oven and 2 kids that are well done =).  I make mistakes, I hurt, I cry, I love and I live. I am just a man with no degrees or labels. I offer something that can never be taken or forced, never stolen or cheated and I give freely the gift given to me; purchased at the highest cost. The most important and sacred gift of all -Love! Dig deeper, walk with me and discover the source of this amazing gift.

The majority of these lenses are designed to inspire Christians to reach for a new level in becoming kingdom minded and less worldly. While it may seem that I assume everyone is a Christian; that could not be further from the truth. I understand that the Christian movement has not grown in ages in America. My personal mission is to share Jesus Christ by giving the living testimony of my life and trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to inspire and convict. Put simply, I am powerless and lowly but the Spirit within me is only limited by how much I get in the way. I am learning to "walk".

All too often people are shown the gospel of Christ and then left to figure the rest out on their own so to speak. It is my prayer that the journey or "The Walk" will not be alone, that we will become what we were designed to be: -We are the Church!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless,
Scott Smith
