A Dad's view - Is it the mother's body or a child?

Much of the Right to Life controversy surrounds the question - doesn't a woman have the right to do what she wants with her own body?   I say absolutely as long as it hurts no one else.   The problem is that abortion hurts not only the woman but the very life of her child.   The child God intrusted to her to protect.

About 22 years ago I had no opinion on this subject.   At that point my wife was carrying our first child within her body.   At the 13th week of her pregnancy we went to the hospital to have an ultrasound.   They were not as far along with this technology as they are now but even so I could see my son within her womb and see him turning flips and putting his hands up.   I tell you right now - at that point I became very much opposed to abortion.   I would not let anyone hurt my son now at the age of 22 nor would I at the age of 10 or 5 or at the 13 week point of that pregnancy.   To hurt him you would have to go thru me...and I promise you it would be a task you do not want to undertake.  When my wife was pregnant with my daughter Tiffany - same thing - I loved my daughter her whole life including the portion she spent in my wife's womb.     Those are my children!    There was no magic dust applied to them as they came down the birth canal.   They were my children inside the womb just as they are my children outside the womb.    They were not part of my wife's body.   They were our children and God had given my wife the priviledge of carrying and protecting them for nine months inside her body.

I am always asked about the what ifs.   What if so and so happened would you be for aborting the baby?   Well the question to me is - in all these circumstances would you kill the child 5 minutes after birth?  If not, why would you kill the child 6 minutes earlier?  or 2 days earlier?  or 1 month earlier?  or 6 months earlier?

What if the child would be born into an abusive relationship?

What about the circumstance of a 37 year old verbal abuse victim. She is only 3 months into a marriage where her husband of 45 is verbally abusive and very much overbearing. She realizes that she made a mistake and needs to get a divorce. She is crying everyday and miserable. At this point the worst possible thing happens. She gets pregnant!

What should she do? Wouldn't it be much better if she aborted this child and moved on with her life? How or why would she carry this child?

Luckily this happened 48 years ago and abortions were hard to get - or I wouldn't be writing this because the 37 year old lady is my mother!

Pro-life Anti-Abortion Video: Development of the Unborn Baby

Anti-Abortion Prolife Video: Development of the Unborn Baby. Anti-Abortion Prolife Video: Development of the Unborn Baby. Fetal Development; From conception to birth; Day 1: fertilization: all human chromosomes are present; unique human life begins. Day 6: embryo begins implantation in the uterus. Day 22: heart begins to beat with the child's own blood, often a different type than the mothers'. Week 3: By the end of third week the child's backbone spinal column and nervous system are forming. The liver, kidneys and intestines begin to take shape. Week 4: By the end of week four the child is ten thousand times larger than the fertilized egg. Week 5: Eyes, legs, and hands begin to develop. Week 6: Brain waves are detectable; mouth and lips are present; fingernails are forming. Week 7: Eyelids, and toes form, nose distinct. The baby is kicking and swimming. Week 8: Every organ is in place, bones begin to replace cartilage, and fingerprints begin to form. By the 8th week the baby can begin to hear. Weeks 9 and 10: Teeth begin to form, fingernails develop. The baby can turn his head, and frown. The baby can hiccup. Weeks 10 and 11: The baby can "breathe" amniotic fluid and urinate. Week 11 the baby can grasp objects placed in its hand; all organ systems are functioning. The baby has a skeletal structure, nerves, and circulation. Week 12: The baby has all of the parts necessary to experience pain, including nerves, spinal cord, and thalamus. Vocal cords are complete. The baby can suck its thumb. Week 14: At this age, the heart pumps several quarts of blood through the body every day. Week 15: The baby has an adult's taste buds. Month 4: Bone Marrow is now beginning to form. The heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day. By the end of month 4 the baby will be 8-10 inches in length and will weigh up to half a pound. Week 17: The baby can have dream (REM) sleep. Week 19: Babies can routinely be saved at 21 to 22 weeks after fertilization, and sometimes they can be saved even younger. Week 20: The earliest stage at which Partial birth abortions are performed. At 20 weeks the baby recognizes its' mothers voice. Months 5 and 6: The baby practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into its developing lungs. The baby will grasp at the umbilical cord when it feels it. Most mothers feel an increase in movement, kicking, and hiccups from the baby. Oil and sweat glands are now functioning. The baby is now twelve inches long or more, and weighs up to one and a half pounds. Months 7 through 9: Eyeteeth are present. The baby opens and closes his eyes. The baby is using four of the five senses (vision, hearing, taste, and touch.) He knows the difference between waking and sleeping, and can relate to the moods of the mother. The baby's skin begins to thicken, and a layer of fat is produced and stored beneath the skin. Antibodies are built up, and the baby's heart begins to pump 300 gallons of blood per day. Approximately one week before the birth the baby stops growing, and "drops" usually head down into the pelvic cavity. 30 million less taxpayers

I am at the tail end of the baby boomer generation. We have been aborting babies at the rate of 1.5 million babies per year. Over the last 20 years this means we have killed 30 million taxpayers.

If you are for abortion then you have no reason to complain when there are not enough tax payers to support the system when you get old!

The happy new world would come if women understand that abortion is not for their well being - but for their partner's .
If every pregnant woman enjoyed the support of the society whether they are in marriage or not . If every girl knew that there is no perfect contraceptive method .

Seeing your child on ultrasound changes everything. I think one way to cut down on abortions is to require you to see the ultrasound before doing the abortion. I don't think many parents will kill their own child after seeing him. They think of the child as a blob and not a real person. But if they could see that very real person - it would dramatically change their view - just like it did with us!

A certain group of people are being killed - executed - without trial, with neither judge nor jury. They have not been accused of any crime; they have not been arrested. By all accounts, they have done nothing wrong. Is this wrong? Does this offend you? I t offends me.
    These are aborted babies.

I have an 18 month old. The very first time I saw that child on an ultrasound my views changed forever. I feel the same way you do about this.
