You might be wondering where all this unclaimed money is. In the United States funds that are not claimed are kept in state treasuries. The lost funds come from a variety of sources such as stocks, dividends, old bank accounts, bonds, abandoned savings account, judgments in court cases, money owed from taxes, customer over payments, or other types of support payments. Once this money has been unclaimed for a period of time, it will turn to the federal agencies until the rightful owner claims it.
