Phillumenists!! WHAT? 

Phillumenists? Who are they?

They are a worldwide group of collectors of everything having to do with matches.
The hobby, is called phillumeny. It includes everything from manufacturers' catalogs and samples to hardware such as match strikers. However it is the collecting of matchcovers, matchboxes, and matchbox labels that will always be of paramount interest.

It was around 1820 that friction matches began to replace flint and steel. This is when patents were granted in France and Britain. But it was years later in the 1890s, in the United States that what we call the "matchbook" was invented and patented.

Among American collectors, matchbook covers enjoy. European collectors on the other hand prefer matchbox labels. "Feature-type" matches, which themselves are printed upon or differently shaped, are the general exception. For both however it is not what is in the box or under the cover that is important, but what is on the outside of the package.

I started selling items on ebay when my father died.  As it turned out I inherited all of his "collectibles" because my siblings  didn't want them (smart on their part).  Anyway I heard about Ebay from them and the rest is history.  I liked it so much that I began buying things to sell and ended up concentrating on Sports Memorabilia in particular Sports Cards. I wish I had mine from  the 50s and 60s but they are no where to be found.  As we were going through my fathers things my neices would always put my items in a stack and say this is Uncle Bob's Stuff and the name stuck.  Enjoy looking at my lenses and remember your own youth.
