I'm going to shine some light on the benefits of installing an electric underfloor heating kit. I just love the feel of a warm tiled floor! These kits will save you money when you use them as your main source of heat, as they are so effective at heating rooms, you can dispense with uneconomical conventional heating systems that waste energy.

They will save you a lot of time to install too, as these days the kits are designed for ease of use with everything included. If you choose the Loose Wire Kit, all you need to do is use the tape to stick the wire to the subfloor, then tile on top with flexible adhesive. The ProFormat Matting Kit is even easier to use, just roll out the matting with the wire attached in place.

The type of underfloor heating I'm talking about here are the Warmup electric underfloor heating kits. You can use them to heat your whole room, or just to keep the chill of the floor. Either way underfloor heating is a great way to enhance the experience of walking on tiles and adding a little luxury to your home.

Radiators versus Underfloor Heating

Conventional radiators can be quite inefficient and allow heat to escape through the windows, walls, ceilings and roofs. They also make for an uncomfortable stuffy atmosphere due to the high temperatures emitted from a small unit.

By warming a large area at a low temperature (21-25°C / 70-77°F) the result is a comfortable atmosphere. Underfloor heating spreads warmth over the entire floor area, producing the most efficient form of heating possible. This is beacuse heat loss is reduced from our bodies without overheating the surrounding air.

Loose Wire System

This is the one to use if you have an irregular shaped room

If you want to feel the warmth underfoot in your kitchen for instance, then it pays to use this kit as you can snake the wire across the room, using a larger gap between loops where you need less heat, such as under tables or close to the kitchen units. It also lends itself very well for irregular shaped rooms as you can easily fit the system into any shape.

With this underfloor heating kit, the electrical heating cable is attached to a tough fiberglass mesh, rolled out before tiling, and connected to a programmable thermostat.

The main difference, when compared to the traditional loose wire, is that it is more suited for larger, regular shaped areas - either in a new building or renovation project.

Warmup Insulation Boards act as a very efficient thermal barrier. They reflect the heat upwards into the floor tile instead of allowing heat to warm up the concrete slab below. By these boards it is possible to achieve warm floor tiles in just 10-15 minutes. Without insulation boards, it could take anything from 2-3 hours, or more!

They are very easy to fit too, you just use flexible adhesive to attach the boards to the dry concrete, tape the underfloor heating wire to the board, then tile on top with more flexible adhesive.
