Some useful information to assist in understanding credit reports

This page is written in the hope that it will provide accurate and helpful information to assist people in understanding their credit reports, credit ratings and also to give them some advice in how to repair their credit rating.
First things first, if you don't already have a copy of your credit report, go to AnnualCreditReport.com and request a copy. You are legally entitled to order 1 free copy of your own credit report every 12 months.

Once you have your copy, examine it carefully to ensure that all information is accurate. It is not uncommon for credit reports to contain errors. If any mistakes are found, be sure to contact the relevant credit reporting agency to have them corrected.

Your credit report is what all companies base their credit score on. If you have any unpaid debts, be sure to pay these off as soon as possible, or at least come to an arrangement with your creditor. If you can, also borrow some small amounts and pay them off quickly, this will also improve your credit rating with many companies.
