Before you begin battling depression, you must be able to recognize the symptoms. It is important to note, that although the symptoms vary from person to person, most depressives will exhibit some form of the illness.

These symptoms include and may not be limited to:

  • Feelings of Emptiness and Isolation

  • Guilt

  • Worthlessness

  • Helplessness.



Coupled with these emotions, many depressed people also experience physical symptoms as well.

Fatigue, restlessness, and loss of interest in personal well-being are marked signs of depression.

Others will actually face psychosomatic symptoms, such as headaches, cramps, and digestive problems that are painful, persistent, and inexplicable.

Treating Depression

There are several methods, but which makes you more comfortable?

There are a few ways to treat depression. The two most common ways are through medicine and clinical help.

Medicine, in the form of antidepressants, regulates brain chemicals in way that normalizes mood and emotions.

Many experts believe that we are beginning to over-prescribe antidepressants and the long list of potentially harmful side effects is cause for alarm.

Psychotherapy is form of therapy that teaches people how to change their way of thinking and behaving.

By addressing the underlying causes of depression and teaching people to handle and control their emotions, psychotherapy is an effective means of treating mild to moderate levels of depression.

Recognize and Take Charge

Take action to get through the process of resolving your despression.

Understanding depression is the first step toward identifying and treating this illness.

If you are depressed, you will not just "get over it" one day. You deserve to lead a life of happiness, contentment, and joy.

Depression is an extremely harmful and dangerous illness.

By working together to promote awareness of its symptoms and effects, we all will be doing our part in battling and defeating depression.
