I hate to break it to you, but the economy is sinking fast. My personal opinion is things will get worse before they get better.

The jobs report was just released for 2007, and it was way below expectations.

That means companies are afraid to take unnecessary risks resulting in:

1) Not hiring as fast
2) Freezing all new hiring
3) No Bonuses
4) Lay offs

I know some people who have been interviewing for 5 months and several of the jobs they were interviewing for suddenly were delayed for 3 months. And they'll probably be postponed permanently.

I know this sounds self-serving, but it is simply logical. When you are first unemployed, it is much easier financially and psychologically to begin a money making program.

I've spoken to a lot of people recently who have either lost their job, are actively looking for a new job, or are about to be laid off.

Forgive my directness, but what the heck is wrong with you people? You are in or about to be in a very risky financial situation due to job loss. Combined with the gloomy economic outlook this year, and it is even more risky without a job.

I've had some long periods of unemployment - once while my wife was pregnant, and the most recent time last year when the real estate market crashed and I was trying to sell 4 properties when nobody was buying!

My advice is:
