If you're having trouble finding furniture in exactly the finish you want for your bedroom, unfinished bedroom furniture might be a good option.

With unfinished furniture, you're basically buying bare wood that you can finish however you like. You could stain it, varnish it, paint it or any number of other things to get just the look you want.

Buying unfinished bedroom furniture isn't always easy, however. Most furniture stores don't sell it unfinished, and if they do it won't necessarily be in the style you want.

You have a couple of options for unfinished furniture. The first, and probably most difficult, is to build it yourself. This is going to require some woodworking skills and the tools (and space) to build the furniture, so it's not for everyone.

But if you can build your bedroom furniture yourself, you can not only finish it however you wish, you can design it exactly the way you want. This gives you much more freedom to choose sizes, designs and layouts than if you buy your furniture from a store.

If building your own bedroom furniture is not an option, you can also custom order it from a cabinet maker. Most cities have custom builders that will build you something according to your specifications - check your local yellow pages for someone near you. These builders also often have standard plans that they can build if you don't necessarily want a custom design, just a custom finish.

If you order from a custom builder, you can also just go ahead and specify the finish you want right from the get go. They should be able to do the finishing work as well as the building, so you simply take delivery of the furniture exactly the way you want it.
