My First Business

This lens is about my first business, my trials and tribulations and the challenges I face.

I make and sell personalised fake newspapers here in the UK. It's a tricky first business to start off with as I've had to work out how to make the product before I learned how to sell it. I am at the stage now where I have learned how to make a quality product - I just need to learn how to market it.

See examples of it here: http://www.makethepapers.co.uk

I will probably intersperse the tedious whining about how much advertising on Google costs with links to funny things I find on the web.

The five reasons I want to get rich

Over the last year or so I have been thinking differently about work, money and how I live my life. I want to free myself from the monthly wage so I can go an do stuff I really enjoy. I need to be rich to do this. Rich means £3+ million in assets and a passive income of a few hundred thousand pounds a year.
  1. I want to have the time and energy to be creative, create music, web animations, stories. This is stuff I just don't have time for any more.
  2. I want to give some of my knowledge and time back to the community. I think I can teach and inspire. I want to do this without worrying how I pay the mortgage.
  3. I want to travel. I would love to see more of the world. Again, you need money and time to do this.
  4. I want to make sure my family is secure and doesn't have to worry about money.
  5. I want to create a pop group or club act and manage them.
  6. I have just started another business. This time I am trying to help people quit smoking

Puzzled

This is a stop-motion animation we made of us completing a puzzle I bought for Liz this Christmas. It's a huge 1500 piece jigsaw with loads of brown bits. Never again.

Puzzling

I bought my girlfriend a 1500 piece jigsaw for Christmas and immediately regretted it. It has taken us a month to complete this brown on brown jigsaw.

Hey, I think this is a great business idea. Perfect gift for the person who has everything. Great for a friendly practical joke. My parents who printed real newspapers used this as a joke for one of their best advertisers, himself a practical joker.

    Its on YouTube and Squidoo.

I love your first business. Clever, innovative, and solves the problem of what to give the person when you want it to be really special.

I reminded me of something my parents did. They had small town weekly newspapers in Iowa, USA. After putting the paper to bed one night, they took out some type and made a special paper for one very good customer, who was a legendary practical joker. I may have it on my lens about them, but it is certainly immortalized in my YouTube. I will tell Dad (now 91) that someone has made a business out of this!

I love your business idea! Above is a youtube that I posted of my Dad. He and mom ran small town weekly newspapers and 55 years ago, played a trick on an advertiser, using your same business idea.

My first lens is about them and the first newspaper, under MargoArrowsmith. I got the YouTube in and the Flickr, but can't get the pictures uploaded! Any ideas?
