Lots of people collect elephants, but Delta girls take it VERY seriously!
Although the elephant is an un-official symbol of the sorority, it is commonly accepted among members and has a special meaning. When Deltas cross, it is customary for them to receive 22 elephants as a gift, representing the twenty-two founders of the organization. While many Deltas receive more than 22 elephants, it is the custom to have AT LEAST 22 at all times.Many Deltas receive figurines, which, depending on their quality, can break easily.
