Don't Settle For Ordinary Jewelry and Look Like Everyone Else!

LEARN HOW TO MAKE YOUR JEWELRY STAND OUT IN A CROWD

Whenever I need some inspiration to make a necklace or a bracelet, I search Google for "unique jewelry".

You know what I find? Sites that show a bunch of beads strung together and labeled "necklace".

After searching through the internet and seeing site after site of the same old, same old, I was able to cull a few gems (pun intended).

I also found this great information on design, color and technique.

The photo on the left will change periodically whenever I find something fabulous to share!

Today's photo: Polymer clay necklace by Kathleen Dustin. I want!

If you are a jewelry maker, I'm sure you will be totally inspired to move your creations in a whole new direction after viewing some of these little treasures. True, some of them may be over-the-top, but look beyond that and imagine the thought process that went into creating that piece.

If you're not a jewelry maker, you can just drool.

Tip # 1 You Don't Have to Match Everything

Photobucket

(from left) The contrasting colors make this simple turquoise and carnelian necklace by FelicityRox on Etsy quite eye catching. There are no two beads alike in Ford and Forlano's polymer clay artwork. Note Vilaiwan's ingenious use of color combinations.

Experiment with colors, sizes and textures. You can make a necklace of just round beads very unique just by mixing some of the elements as you can see in this example.

To learn more about great color combination, read The Beader's Guide to Color. I found this book to be invaluable in helping me design my pieces.

Tip # 2 Round Is Not The Only Shape

Photobucket

(from left) Designer Anne Maa uses a slice amethyst geode to fashion this wire wrapped pendant. Valerie Hector weaves tiny sterling beads into larger rectangles for this modernistic bracelet.

What other "un-round" designs can you come up with?

Tip # 3 It Doesn't Even Have To Be About Beads

Photobucket

(from left) The delicious glass-like cuff bracelet by Wear No Evil is actually made out of flexible PVC. The colorful, bohemian cuff by K Joo is fashioned out of felted wool. Both artists can be found at Etsy.

Tip # 4 Add Your Signature

Photobucket

(from left) Melanie Bilenker's pieces are miniature framed works of art: line drawings made using human hair! Anne Gericke's pieces are like slices of life captured in a tiny diorama. Heather Wynn has a penchant for nature, especially birds, and she includes these elements in her creations.
