HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Do you support a Universal Health Care Plan?

Yes!

I fully support Universal Health Care. I think that other countries have benefited from implementing these plans.

American's should not go bankrupt from getting sick. The insurance companies have gotten rich from charging high premiums and that has got to stop. Everyone deserves to have quality health care in this country and I think that providing universal care is the answer. What do you think?

yes

AshleyBretting-M.S. says:

Yes, and it better include mental health coverage :)

Soul-Mate says:

I live in Europe, which means we have a socialised health care. Let me get one thing straight - it's a great system because there are always people that cannot afford to pay for private doctors. With that said you are still free to choose any doctor you want, any clinic you want. It merely ensures that every one is provided with an equal chance of health care. Why are people so scared? Me personally I use a mixture of both doctors. If I like one that belongs in the system I go there and if some one else takes my fancy I go there too. Nobody can stop you from seeing who ever you want.

SudokuNut says:

Man, its frustrating to see some of the false information thrown around about European health care. I can tell you, I've lived under both systems and I would take socialised medicine any day over the greedy, heartless system here in the US. If you want private healthcare in Europe you can have it. If you can't afford it, then the universal health care system is there to catch you. According to a study I read earlier, over 2 million people in the US experience bankcruptcy due to medical bills every year - and more than three quarters of those HAVE insurance at the time of their illness! That's a broken system and I guess you only really care when it hits you, otherwise its just someone else's problem. Sad. :(

PoisonTheMonkey says:

Yes. America is (was) exceedingly wealthy. There's no reason we can't pay to keep children and people in need from DYING. We aren't paying to give them liposuction, we're paying to keep them alive. Something that's kind of a right guaranteed to all of us.

healthblogs says:

As a long time patient (5 years with incurable cancer), I'm acutely aware of the financial devastation that can occur when a serious health condition is diagnosed.

I think we'd benefit from a hybrid system in which all citizens would be taken care of. I don't want to see private insurance disappear for people who can afford it.

I've seen too many cases though, in which the uninsured or underinsured are simply not given the care that only money can buy in the current system.

No way, Monkeybrain! Universal Health Care is a bad idea!

Kay says:

Health care is not the government's concern. Nationalized health care will be a disaster as it is in all countries where they have it. Health care reform is the business of citizens and citizens should be going after insurance & medical industries, not becoming yet more controlled by an ever growing gov't.

Mike says:

NO
health care is a privilege, now let me clarify. First off the government doesn't do ANYTHING more efficient than the private sector. second, all of the examples in eurpoe that are given, most of those countries have 40-60% tax rates. REALLY? Now saying that I do believe hat health care costs would be lower if we didn't allow lawsuits that were based on ignorance and a lawyer that wanted to make a quick buck or a million. Tort reform is necessary in reducing the cost of health care. If a DR. did everything he could and his patient dies, a panel agreed with him then he, nor the hospital should be held at fault. Right? well that isn't how it works, what happens is some greedy lawyer takes advantage of a grieving family and say "I will make you millions", WTF instead of accepting the fact that their loved one died they too then get greedy. file a lawsuit, and since you only need 51% of the jurors to agree with you they win the DR loses and his insurance premiums go up. STUPID LAWSUITS cause health care to rise.
Figure it out people
you stupid sheep

Patrick says:

no, i believe there are other alternatives that would be better. I see how UHC could be good but there are far to many cons to it. Yes, i think something should be done to these greedy insurance companies but giving the government all power is not the brightest idea. Look at the VA healthcare or medicre(caid) Its controlled by the government and where has that gotten?

BigJim says:

Oh, this is such a hideously bad idea for this country. Government needs to get OUT of the insurance business. Government intervention is why it's so screwed up in the first place. As always the free market is the best way to solve this problem. And yes, oh gee whiz somebody's going to "get rich" off of it. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Competition will drive the price down and the quality up. No socialized medicine under ANY circumstances.
