HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Do you support a Universal Health Care Plan?

Yes!

I fully support Universal Health Care. I think that other countries have benefited from implementing these plans.

American's should not go bankrupt from getting sick. The insurance companies have gotten rich from charging high premiums and that has got to stop. Everyone deserves to have quality health care in this country and I think that providing universal care is the answer. What do you think?

Yes, we need Universal Health Care!

Sam Mc says:

Yes, im British and have had a operation on the NHS I did not know that people had to pay for healthcare in America I've always taken for granted that rich countries had free health care for all there citizens. Its funny how the most powerful country in the world is to greedy to give its Citizens Free health care. America has not had the long rooted history of suffering and illness that Europe and Africa have had. it is in the common mind that National health care is a good thing, because we have had war, death and bombs right in the hearts of our nations. The working class demands a free health care system and its the British governments job to give it to them, No its not communist its just not greedy capitalist claptrap. Every ones payed into it. The rich, the poor and its everybody's its the only remnant of old labors glory days and the great british welfare state. Which got destroyed by Maggy Thacher. America will learn to love it if they just give it a go. So maybe its got its bad points but its better than insurance.

KB says:

I agree and support universal healthcare. Please if anyone hasn't watched "sicko" by Michael Moore you should, our country is one of the best, but we are not showing it, just exhibiting greed and if you are in a place to take care of your own people, why shouldn't you? We need to get it together people and not let the insurance companies and certain doctors etc continue to make a profit off our ignorance and fear. Enough is enough!

Adam says:

If it works in other countries why can't it work here?

Tim says:

Yes,Long over due!

Betty says:

Yes I do !! and I say that it is about time America got on track with health care.

You go President Obama !!

S says:

yes

AshleyBretting-M.S. says:

Yes, and it better include mental health coverage :)

Soul-Mate says:

I live in Europe, which means we have a socialised health care. Let me get one thing straight - it's a great system because there are always people that cannot afford to pay for private doctors. With that said you are still free to choose any doctor you want, any clinic you want. It merely ensures that every one is provided with an equal chance of health care. Why are people so scared? Me personally I use a mixture of both doctors. If I like one that belongs in the system I go there and if some one else takes my fancy I go there too. Nobody can stop you from seeing who ever you want.

SudokuNut says:

Man, its frustrating to see some of the false information thrown around about European health care. I can tell you, I've lived under both systems and I would take socialised medicine any day over the greedy, heartless system here in the US. If you want private healthcare in Europe you can have it. If you can't afford it, then the universal health care system is there to catch you. According to a study I read earlier, over 2 million people in the US experience bankcruptcy due to medical bills every year - and more than three quarters of those HAVE insurance at the time of their illness! That's a broken system and I guess you only really care when it hits you, otherwise its just someone else's problem. Sad. :(

PoisonTheMonkey says:

Yes. America is (was) exceedingly wealthy. There's no reason we can't pay to keep children and people in need from DYING. We aren't paying to give them liposuction, we're paying to keep them alive. Something that's kind of a right guaranteed to all of us.

healthblogs says:

As a long time patient (5 years with incurable cancer), I'm acutely aware of the financial devastation that can occur when a serious health condition is diagnosed.

I think we'd benefit from a hybrid system in which all citizens would be taken care of. I don't want to see private insurance disappear for people who can afford it.

I've seen too many cases though, in which the uninsured or underinsured are simply not given the care that only money can buy in the current system.

No way, Monkeybrain! Universal Health Care is a bad idea!

HealthFreak2009 says:

Other countries have universal health care like Canada. From everything I have head, it has been a miserable failure. The problem is doctors charging ridiculous fees. There is no reason an aspirin should cost $50 in the hospital.

I am opposed because I do not think our government should be running banks, auto companies, and health insurance.

G says:

Why do the prices from Health carrier premium keep go up every Year! Why are doctors charging so much for care! Why do people want UHC? Because their FAT and LAZY.... Why take responsibility for yourself when you don't have to right, of course not its much easier to blame someone else.... If the government wanted to REALLY make the market competitive they would open the market nationally to carriers across our country with no restrictions. We have 100's upon 100's of carriers out there; I would say thats competition, would you? and for God's sake go walk, run or ride a bike and let me decide what to do with my money...

Kay says:

Health care is not the government's concern. Nationalized health care will be a disaster as it is in all countries where they have it. Health care reform is the business of citizens and citizens should be going after insurance & medical industries, not becoming yet more controlled by an ever growing gov't.

Mike says:

NO
health care is a privilege, now let me clarify. First off the government doesn't do ANYTHING more efficient than the private sector. second, all of the examples in eurpoe that are given, most of those countries have 40-60% tax rates. REALLY? Now saying that I do believe hat health care costs would be lower if we didn't allow lawsuits that were based on ignorance and a lawyer that wanted to make a quick buck or a million. Tort reform is necessary in reducing the cost of health care. If a DR. did everything he could and his patient dies, a panel agreed with him then he, nor the hospital should be held at fault. Right? well that isn't how it works, what happens is some greedy lawyer takes advantage of a grieving family and say "I will make you millions", WTF instead of accepting the fact that their loved one died they too then get greedy. file a lawsuit, and since you only need 51% of the jurors to agree with you they win the DR loses and his insurance premiums go up. STUPID LAWSUITS cause health care to rise.
Figure it out people
you stupid sheep

Patrick says:

no, i believe there are other alternatives that would be better. I see how UHC could be good but there are far to many cons to it. Yes, i think something should be done to these greedy insurance companies but giving the government all power is not the brightest idea. Look at the VA healthcare or medicre(caid) Its controlled by the government and where has that gotten?

BigJim says:

Oh, this is such a hideously bad idea for this country. Government needs to get OUT of the insurance business. Government intervention is why it's so screwed up in the first place. As always the free market is the best way to solve this problem. And yes, oh gee whiz somebody's going to "get rich" off of it. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Competition will drive the price down and the quality up. No socialized medicine under ANY circumstances.
