Unwire with WiFi.com - A Wireless Internet Technology Resource.

The staff over at WiFi.com was so excited about the "giving back" model offered by the Squidoo social network, we collectively decided to setup an account and chose the Cancer Research & Prevention Foundation as the charity which respresents what has touched our families most. We are donating 50% to this charity and we encourage you to donate too! Regardless of whether or not you purchase a wifi-capable product through us.

Hopefully we can educate you about the pros and cons of wireless Internet and networking. Our specialty is wi-fi, but we can certainly answer questions about other wireless Internet technologies; wimax, etc. We will make a concerted effort to update the lens often with rich content that will force you to come back for more! Ok, we dont want to force you back, but if you are learning something from us we like to know about it. Thank you for looking into our lens.

What is WiFi?

wireless networking made easy!

WiFi is a universal wireless networking technology that utilizes radio frequencies to transfer data. WiFi allows for high speed Internet connections without the use of cables or wires. WiFi is based upon the 802.11 standard which is maintained and regulated by the Wi-Fi Alliance. www.wi-fi.org

What is a WiFi USB Adapter?

Unlike a standard wifi-card which is often built into a laptop or desktop computer, a WiFi USB adapter is a wifi-enabled device which plugs into your computer using one of the USB ports. Instead of sending or recieving an Internet signal through an internal wifi-card (assuming you have one installed) the computer would connect to the Internet using the USB adapter instead.

These are very handy if you 1) do not have a wifi card installed on the computer, and 2) need a small device which "fits in the pocket."

Some examples of a WiFi USB adapter can be found in our products section. Otherwise you can pick one up from a retailer who specializes in computer equipment or electronics.
