Creating An Overall Design
When it comes to decorating your home, many people begin by thinking about the things that are most obvious: the color of paint on the walls, the furniture in the room and other large decorative accents. As anyone knows, the large items that fill up the rooms of our homes are very important when it comes to the overall design and scheme of our homes. But, by paying attention to the small items in a home that aid in the décor, you may find that you can easily bring big changes into your home through small changes on your part!
Make a plan.
Begin by asking yourself if you have any items in your home that you could update to offer a fresh look. For example, do you have a rather plain lamp sitting in one of your rooms? Why not freshen it up by adding ribbons, cording or other decorative accents? Items such as these are easily affordable and not difficult to find; simply check at your local home décor stores or fabric stores. When you have those items in hand, add them to your lamp using a glue gun or even permanent glue. Remember to read the attached safety instructions that come with your lamp to determine what accents you can add to the lamp without creating a fire hazard. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

Invest wisely.
Do you have a small amount of money that you would like to stretch in a big way? Invest that money in area rugs for the different rooms in your home. Rugs, no matter what shape or size, are an easy way to bring design and color into an otherwise boring room. Search online for rugs that fit your decorating scheme and then go from there. You can choose from modern rugs, bamboo rugs, flokati rugs and more. As with any item in your home, be sure to look for rugs that are able to be easily cleaned since they will be experiencing plenty of wear and tear!

Looking for a way to change the look of a room without spending any money at all? Simply rearrange books or other items on shelves in a room of your house to give a whole new look to the area! Instead of arranging all of your books vertically, consider placing some in horizontal stacks while keeping the other books in vertical position. Place fake greenery on the back of the shelves and be sure to add plenty of framed photos that display your loved ones or even places you've visited. Not only will your shelves offer a new, updated look, but the books and photographs displayed on your shelves will provide plenty of conversation starters when you have family, friends or other guests visiting your home. Remember that, if you have prized books or easily breakable knickknacks that you wish to display on shelves, you will want to place them at heights that will keep the items from being accessible to children or pets. By planning to keep your most important items safe and sound, you will have a better chance that they will stay in the original design for years to come!
