What is an upper back pain

Pain in the back is always like a nightmare for most of the individuals around the world and at times, it can seriously incapacitate an individual. Generally the upper back pain is rarely found and is also known as the middle back pain or thoracic pain. The upper back pain is located between the base of the neck and the top part of the lumber spine.

Though this condition is not very commonly found, but when it does affect it affects badly and the pain can be excruciating for the sufferer. The commonly found reason for the upper back pain is muscular irritation or myofascial pain as well as the dysfunction of the joint can cause the upper back pain. The thoracic spine is more important in terms of form and function than the cervical spine. The upper back structure is different from the rest of the structure of the back and hence the pain and the treatments.

Due to the strenuous daily activities one has to undergo, the problem of upper back pain is on the increase. The upper back area of the body is difficult to rest and relax and hence the pain keeps on increasing for the sufferers. The de-generation of muscles, wrong posture of the body, injuries resulting from overuse, and also trauma, injury in accidents, sports injury are the cause of the upper back pain. The muscle pain is treated generally with one or a combination of treatments.

Exercises, active and passive physical therapy can relax the strained muscles. Chiropractors generally do the joint manipulation to ease the pain in the upper back. Massage therapy, as well as acupuncture have shown a considerable relief for the patients suffering from upper back pain. Heat and ice therapy is also used to treat the upper back pain, when the pain becomes unbearable then one can go in for the pain medication such as NSAIDS.
