Have you ever seen a show that one of your kids watch, roll your eyes, and think, "I would have never watched that as a kid."At first glance, Nick Jr.'s The Upside Down Show seemed like one of those shows. Two grown men
( David and Shane ) acting like they don't have a clue in the world. The Upside Down Show is filled with random anecdotes, and quirky sequences that may be hard to see past.
But my one year old daughter is absolutely BATS about this show! She has watched all thirteen episodes at least twice. So yes, I had plenty of exposure to Shane, David, Puppet and the Schmuzzies.
After really watching it, I understood them, and now, I think to myself, " I wish I had a show like that to watch when I was a kid"

Upside Down Quote ot the Day
Funny and quirky quotes
David:"I'll try my Boo-Ja-Ja Knock" ...
Shane:"Your WHAT!?"
David:"My Boo-Ja-Ja knock,"
Shane:"Your WHAT!?"
David:"My Boo-Ja-Ja knock, repeat after me. Boo"
Shane:"Boo"
David:"Ja"
Shane"Ja"
David:"Ja"
Shane: "Ja"
David:""You get a Boo-Ja-Ja"
Shane: "Boo-Ja-Ja-Ja"
David:"That's one too many Ja's"
Why as an adult, I like the show
The reason I find this show so remarkable, first off, is because, me, as an adult am able to watch this show, and laugh-out-loud because it's that funny! The Umbilical brothers started as a slapstick comedy duo for adults, and went on to filming the children's show. They, however used the same antics, but targeting children.
What is great is the interaction between the hosts and the audience. They also have a way of connecting with children, and not treating them like they are dumb, or don't understand. Some of their humor is very witty, and some people would suggest that a child probably wouldn't understand the joke, but kids get it, and I love that they don't act like our children always need to be talked to slowly. and quietly.
This show is packed with Easter eggs, and hidden references (none of them bad). For example, you can find references to the Beatles, Billy Madison, Pink Floyd and much more.. it's always fun to see what you can catch.
This is a great show to watch with your children, it's quirky fun, clean and you'll both get an LOL from it.
So, maybe I didn't have a show like this when I was small, but I watch it now, and I'm pretty glad I do!

That's Schmuzzish for : A Quick Overview of the Show
,
-

Shane (bald, thin, guy with the "slow motion T-shirt") On the show, he apparently is an artistic prodigy. He has a pet fly named Fido, and has a bit of a crush on a certain Ms. Foil. He also is a bit afraid of schmuzzies
This is his story, or so he says:
"Born twelve thousand years ago on the planet Zargoth, Shane was raised by space bunnies until he was old enough to hop on his own. Hoping to make a name for himself in the Quargo System as a hard-bitten space mercenary, he trained at the Lenny Spiegelman Academy for Astro Cadets. (Don't try and find it today, the site was bought out by a roller disco, which subsequently burnt to the ground.)
It was during his first training mission that he pressed the wrong button and ejected himself to Earth, landing in his "parents" backyard in suburban Australia, which is not unlike his home planet. There he spent many happy years mowing lawns and watching television - often simultaneously. It is rumored that he worked in a paramilitary organization in the mid-eighties, possibly the Brownies, but details are understandably sketchy.
Shane continued to harbor dreams of space cadet-ship and came to the conclusion that if he couldn't fly for real, he could at least pretend - either in a loony bin or on stage. It was in that loony bin he met David, his brother and comrade in stupid ideas. The rest is history. Shane has twenty-seven sisters and an imaginary friend called Bruce, who is apparently a blue rhino. Shane has never been to the Oscars, unless you count the open day, which he found quite impressive......"

David (Tall dark curly hair, with striped shirt, and khaki Pants). On the show David has a fantastic ability, when he puts his hand to his ear, and goes "dooo dooo dooo dooo" he can hear thing miles away! David does not have a pet, but is good freind with Bob the rag, and is very aquainted with the Schmuzzies.. He communicates frequently, and speaks fluent Schmuzzish, a language that took him 7 years to learn! (replace first letter with "SCHM-")
This is his story, or so he says:
"David describes himself as a massively underdeveloped genius who doesn't like the word pungent, and believes luck is a state of mind. For 6 years David tried to be Arnold Schwarzenegger, but "society" dictated that he couldn't because he didn't look or sound anything like him. Oh "society", when will you learn? Tragedy is a lack of imagination. David can run the 100meter sprint in world record time. Not from a standing start, but with the wind behind him and running down a very steep hill. He is often found yelling at audiences "If you can't see what's happening, you're not using your ears!" Suffice to say, he's a bit odd. Warning: Too much David Collins can result in chaffing, irregular heartbeat or even death. If you or a loved one has seen David Collins perform, contact the law offices of Clem Funknuckle. ..."

The rest of the crew
cause they matter too!
On the show also is :
Ms. Foil, a good friend of the brothers, who also appears in the show as "Shopkeeper" "Scout""Ice Cream Person" not necessarily being Ms. Foil. She has a male cat named Elizabeth, and usually knows where she is going (Especially when she's in a "This Way" room.)
She is a key character in the show, and is downright hilarious.
Puppet:
Puppet with an "American" accent, he lives in a suitcase stage with the brothers, and is depends on them for a lot of things (lullabies, picking up his cousin Mary Annette from the airport, and tossing him like a frisbee.
Schmuzzies; The Schuzzies are little dust bunny like furballs who tend to get themselves involved in quite a few situations. They are really harmless, but Shane fears them because he doesn't understand them.
You'll also meet The Voice, Bob, and every episode guest stars a diffrent child, who is more than happy to show the brothers common logic. (They do lack logic quite a bit)

- Both of my daughters (one is 4 1/2 and the other is 18 months) LOVE this show. I have not found anything inappropriate, therefore, I have no reason to disapprove of it. I, myself, have gotten hooked on The Upside Down Show because of how imaginative and creative it is.I find myself "cracking up"--right alongside my girls--over a lot of the silly things they do. I actually found this commentary section while trying to find out why this show ended after only one season...that is such a shame!

- My twin boys have been watching the Upside Down show religiously daily. Now thanks to this show, their vocabulary and sense of imagination has greatly improved, not to mention one of their first sentences was: "mama side show!". They are now turning 3 next month and would love to purchase the DVD with their 13 shows and amazed on how difficult it is to find. Needless to say, I am disappointed the show was not granted more seasons considering how much kids love and learn from them.

- I absolutely love Shane and David. I very much wish there were more episodes I find myself laughing out loud even at the jokes I have seen over and over. My girls LOVE them my 4 year old daughter is constantly walking around and freezing and unfreezing me and her sister and her dad, as well as she is constantly pretending she has ACTION FINGERS! I really wish they would come back and do more of these shows.
