Welcome to Urban Survival Secrets

Howdy!

Have you ever given thought to what to do when an emergency happens. Do you have the tools, equipment and supplies to be ready so you aren't caught with your pants around your ankles?

My goal is to assist you to be prepared by giving info and other goodies to you so that you can be prepared.

Think about the past emergencies of Katrina, the California Wild Fires and other disasters. If you had to bug out with 5 minutes notice, would you have what it takes to survive for 3 days/a week/a month/a year? I'll bet you that 99 out of a 100 folks who read this are not. If a disaster happens in the middle of the week, how would your family survive?

Head on over to Urban Survival Secrets and sign up for my newsletter. I will work my tail off to get you up to speed in a cost effective manner.

Getting Ready with your Food Storage

I am Not going to be hungry during a downturn/disaster

Have you ever thought about how you will survive during a disaster or Emergency? Seriously. What are you going to do in the event that the stores are all closed and nothing is on the shelves of those that are left open. Will you hope that the Government will actually come through with aid?

I dread the fact that the Dems may actually get a full sweep of the congress and the White House - there really will not be any checks or balances there. Then big government will come back and we will be bordering on a socialistic state. Mind you, none of the candidates are my cup of tea. I was glad that Mike Huckabee got out as well - he is an ass in my book. Anyhow, sorry about the detour.

When getting your yourself ready for disasters, the first three days (you have a 72 hour kit, right??) are the easy part. I personally remember seeing food lines in the great Soviet Union and wondering if our great country could go down that path. The3 fact is YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE YOU CAN TRUST TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Over the next few weeks, I am going to outline a plan for you on how to get a food supply in place for you and your family over the next year without breaking the budget AND eating foods you like.

If you head on over to Urban Survival Secrets and sign up, we will make sure you have the tools and data your need!

Surviving Travel

Airlines vs your survival kit

OK, So here I am coming back from Portland the other night when I realize that I have to check my survival kit in with my luggage due to tools of mass destruction (my leatherman). Fortunately, I keep some food with me. Thank goodness as we circled the airport for an hour then diverted to California for food. I was still somewhat hungry, but at least could survive being 6 hours late to the Casa. Couldn't get food at the airport we touched down at since they all close at 11 p.m. and it was after 11 when we touched down. And yes, I love eating the Southwest snacks (barf!) At least they dont charge like the other airlines I refuse to fly (US AIR).

As in the past, when I traveled frequently, I would carry crayolas and a coloring book in case I was stuck near an impetuous toddler (or adult for that matter!) I used to carry nail clippers and other assorted goodies, but since the last cavity check by the guy with hands the size of Yao Ming, I have bypassed this. I also still watch when my bag goes into the cargo hold just in case! I have seen bags mangled going into the plane so I can discuss it with the gate agent. I also have sweet talked the Stewardesses into letting me check out the first aid kits on several flights - they are well stocked and nothing that was out of date. NICE!

As for being stuck in the air with little food and chance to land until a storm clears, my suggestion is lots of water and crackers if you dont carry a power bar or similar. Also be sure to eat before leaving, usless you suffer from air sickness. Also, take your non metallic stuff with you just in case - that includes the pepto bismol!

Games people play

Not being prepared or being a bonehead (not to offend anyone!)

I was talking with a friend the other day about being prepared (both of us are scouters!) He said that he was not prepared for a disaster with even a 72 hour kit, or other basic materials (except for a case of water bottles and a flash light and some canned food - with an electric opener.) This got me to thinking, how many people are not ready for a simple emergency - you know, first aid supplies, small cache of money ($100 in small bills) etc. After seen what happened in multiple situations with Katrina and other natural diasters, it could take days for the government to respond with just the necessities. Mind you, I do not sit on top of loads of money or anything, but I do know we have a bunch of supplies - enough to last a few months with proper planning. Mind you, I live in Arizona where the heat is rather high during the summer and fresh vegies and fruit growing are sparse!

Why not hop on over to my website and sign up for the newsletter. I am working on a series of modules to email to you for free on getting yourself ready before it is too late!

Get Ready

Its easy to be prepared for diasters

So I get a call from a friend in a panic. After the panic subsides and normal breathing resumes, we discuss the situation. Without giving what happened out, I can strait up tell you that a little bit of thinking ahead would have gone a long way to the solution.

Face facts! If you don't have a first aid kit that is stocked properly (that means all meds are up to date and the band aids are not from World War II) you cannot respond to bad boo boos.

The week before last, my son dropped a pickle jar and then stepped on the glass. OUCH! After removing the glass from his heel, I put a paper towel on the gash to provide some absorption. My wife grabbed some supplies from the box to provide pressure bandages. Things went well even down at the emergency room. Needless to say, the med staff was fine with how we dealt with the emergency. 15 stitches later, we were done. Now, if we were not prepared, blood would have been all over the house and car (yes, there was blood on the floor of the house, but just in the kitchen.) No blood was on the carpet of the car.

What I am getting at is this. Be sure to be ready. Take time to make a plan, buy your supplies and actually practice. You don't learn CPR by watching a movie - you actually need to do the chest compressions and realize you will break ribs (sorry to have to tell you that.) As a friend in college once said - MAN UP you Whiny Freak!

If you don't know what to do, sign up for my email list (first name and email address) and I will send you you own list of stuff to get and plans to make so that when emergencies happen, you are ready! Go to Urban Survival Secrets to get signed up -its real easy!
