So let's make it easier for people to create them

The Internet is everywhere (almost) and we've all seen websites that are designed the wrong way. This really gets up my nose. Squidoo is a good example ;)

Let's collaborate here and pass on our learnings on to people who are starting our or trying to fix up their mistakes.

Creating a business website the right way

Some practical links to help you through each stage.

There are a number of critical steps in creating a good website or blog.

1. Clarify what business (or pleasure) you are in and what your customers need to know. Decide on your focus, be it more sales, simplified customer interaction or automation of processes such as placing orders.

2. Determine how your customers will use your website or blog -- if at all. What rival website could they also use? If your site will be of limited value, abort.

3. Based on your budget and skill, consider available product options such as standard sites, forums, blogs, video and chat. Plenty of people will help you for free. Ask friends who have rigged up a website before. Post questions in online forums such as LinkedIn and Facebook.

4. Determine what actions visitors will perform on your site. Write down the top five, which will help you choose the appropriate product features.

5. Establish how much the site will need to change as your business evolves. Allot time to manage it.

Click on the headings below!

3. - 4. Choose your site functionality
