Used Aluminum Fishing Boat

What Kind Of Fishing Boat To Buy?
To buying a wooden fishing boat or even a fiberglass one or perhaps an aluminum boat? That is your next question.
A timber boat is quite nice and it appears wonderful, but are you convinced you intend to spend a large part of your own fishing time taking care of your timber boat? Yes because while they look good, timber boats need lots of care: you have to sand them, varnish them, fix the timber and much more.
When you are fishing you don't worry about the look, do you? Furthermore you want to have a fishing boat that resists to impacts.
A fiberglass has a lesser amount of maintenance nevertheless is less resistant to impact compared to then aluminum boat therefore it is easily holed and when it is not properly cared for it can absorb water, in fact if you ever ruin the gelcoat you have to repair it before to go fishing the next time.
So the best choice is the aluminum fishing boat, in fact it is hard and impact proof, it is light and for it's weight it is strong. In fact where a timber of fiberglass boat can crack an aluminum fishing boat will just dent rather than crack. Thus because of this it is a very long durable boat.
If you have been looking around for a new aluminum fishing boat you've found out that a brand new one is quite expensive. While used aluminum fishing boats can be economical and will last so long (if correctly treated) that you will leave it to your kids.

Repaing Your Aluminum Fishing Boat
Due to their incredible resistance, aluminum boats repairs are mainly due to stop a leak. These usually occur at the rivets more than holes due to a heavy impact (like with a rock, or such). These rivet leaks are quite easy to repair (the hard part can be to find the leak). If the cut is less than 1" then there are home remedies that can be undertaken.
The first action to repair a leak in an aluminum fishing boat is to spot where the leak is. Once located it must be marked clearly and indelibly (make sure you spot all of them as there could be more than one). The ways to find the leak(s) are: a) put the boat in the water and see from where it comes in, b) put the boat on supports high enough to have plenty of space underneath, then put some water in the boat (do not overfill the boat with water as usually the leak is close to the keel. After this, with good lights, look on the outside and find from where the water comes out and mark the spot(s). If you are lucky you will find one or two bad rivets ruined by the rough handling of the boat or heavy collision with rocks or sharp objects.
Now that you located the leak, you have to fix it and the best way to do that is from the external part of the hull, as in this case the patch will be pressed against the hull itself from the water . The only way to fix a leak on the seam hidden under the keel, is to fix it from the inside, while if the leak is from a riveted seat you have to fix it from the outside.
