It is cheaper—especially when you buy it in an auction. You can dictate how much you can spend for it at a certain extent.
Used car auctions are now the trend if you want to buy cars with a slim wallet. The major problem, however, is the quality and security of the car. Remember that because you are the one looking for a used car, you are very vulnerable to tolerate simple problems and even major ones.
Due to some horrible natural disasters that struck the nation like the Hurricane Katrina, a lot of flooded cars now are sold to auction houses and you may just be the one to buy that flooded car. There are also some "auto salvaged" cars with a lot of overlooked items like odometer rollback or missing airbags. Worse, some cars in an auction are stolen cars.

1. Get the used car's history. You'll never know how many owners the car already had. Make sure you know how these persons have treated the car. There are online sites that can give you information about this. You can look for them at online-based repair shops or from some authorities handling the record of vehicular accidents. Some cars in auction are flooded cars from the nation's major disasters. Check if the car is one of the flooded cars. There are sites that can help you with that.
2. Let a mechanic check the used car. You may not be knowledgeable enough compared to auto mechanics. They can spot some car defects like damages from previous crashes, hidden defects, fluid leaks, or corrosions.

Keep in mind these few pointers before declaring your bid for used cars. If you don't win the bid, at least you didn't pay for something unworthy of the price. You can always visit online auction centers for more details about used car auctions.
