Used Taylor 914 - Eaves-dropping the Owners
I've just been listening to (well, reading, actually) what several owners of a Taylor 914ce were saying about their guitars.
Most of them listed several high-end guitars they owned, and were able to reflect on their exprience of the Taylor 914 compared to other models and manufacturers.
Great Guitarists play Great Guitars...
...and Great Songs
The rendition of "The Water is Wide" at the end of this video is the most moving I've ever heard. Virtuoso playing and lovely singing...
Worth watching all the way through.

One thing I missed entirely...
In this price range* its very common to buy for models to be strongly polarized in favor of either fingerpicking, or strumming. But the Taylor 914ce excels in either style, from a sound and playability view-point, so I've really got 2 guitars in one body!
The 914 is a great all-around guitar, and a good deal for the money.
* a new 914 will set you back $3700-$6000, depending on customisation options, and service level you choose, or a second-hand 914ce in as-new condition (if you can find one) probably anything from $2950 upwards...

...let me pick out a few common themes...
"Just a beautiful instrument with the best neck I've ever played!! Action is perfect! They set this all straight from the factory."
"Here is where Taylor wins customers, this 914 plays like an electric!"
I can certainly second these comments. The 914 is comfortable to play seated or standing, and the neck and action combination means playing is almost effortless...
Sound, or Tone
"It is very responsive for fingerstyle but still has a lot of headroom for flatpicking."
"The sound is focused, clear, punchy, clear as crystal, well balanced."
The thing is, the marvelous sound matures as the guitars age. So buying a second-hand model can deliver superb value for money, if you ever find one for sale.
And I'd add one more myself...
Mind you, this isn't unique to the 914, but I've still to find another guitar manufacturer who comes close to Taylor in consistently producing precision-engineered and precision set instruments straight out of the case!
I suffer from a highly intonation-sensitive ear, and let me promise you, playing Taylor guitars (I have 3 at present) saves a lot of tuning time & pain!
PS. I found a used Taylor 914 for sale in the UK. Click the link for more info.
