First things first, if you are not a member of eBay then you can Sign up Free Here! EBay is free to join, free to buy, but there are fees if you sell. There is a listing fee, and a final value fee. But both are small compared to the amount of profits you can make selling on eBay. Be aware and understand the eBay fee scale so that you can make better decisions on your selling on eBay.

The next step you need to do is find stuff to sell. Search your closets, Garage, basement, attic, or anywhere you might find stuff you no longer need or want. Even if you find something that YOU think might not be worth anything, pull it out, you may be surprised.

Once you have compiled the stuff that you will potentially sell on ebay, it is time to research those items. You can do so by doing a simple search on those items. Then use the advanced search feature on the left of the screen. Type in the name of the product and check completed auctions feature on the search form. This will bring up past auctions that were selling a product similar to the ones you want to sell.

Find the auctions that sold for the highest, perferbably the top ten. Now locate their starting prices, the categories they used, (note the traffic meter at the bottom of the auction page if present, this will give you the volume of the people who viewed the auction)and how many bids were made.

Now that you have this information you will have an estimate to how much the items are worth. Now it is time to take a few pictures of each item. (try and get the best possible pictures you can.)

Selecting a appropriate category is simple. Check out the final auctions you researched and use the same categories that they used to produce the high end results...

Once you have the pictures, it's time to list them. The first thing you will have to do is create a title. If you have done your research, you will have the titles of the top selling items similar to yours. Pay attention to what "grab" words they used, such as rare, vintage, one of a kind, antique, and so on. You will want to copy those type of titles, and include those "grab" words in your title.

The next step is to describe your item. (please do not use all capitals, this annoys people, and they will likely not bid.) Describe the condition to the best of your ability, being honest will help your feedback, and label you as a honest seller.Note the age of the item, the maker, what it is used for, and so on. Make the description as long and as informative as you can. Make sure you include keywords that are targeted toward your item. Such as the product title, several times in your description. Then Bold them. If you do not know how to bold them, it is simple.

Search the web for HTML tags for bold or strong. Then use these tags to bold your keywords. If you know how to do meta tags and description, then use it, they will help increase your traffic to your auctions.

Pay attention to the descriptions the winning auctions have used. Don't copy the description, but pull out some important tricks that they may have in the description.

The starting price should be set at the average of the top three auctions. (IF you can afford to do so)

Shipping is important, make sure that your shipping is clearly stated and is enough to cover your shipping costs of the item. I do include a material and handling fee of $2.00 to $3.00 or more depending on the size of the item I am selling. (Gas to the postal office, my time packaging and shipping and packing materials all cost, so if the buyer doesn't like it, then bid else where. You must cover your costs.)

The next step is important. Completely explain your payment options such as Paypal, money order, and so on...Describe the time you will ship the item and how. (If the item is breakable, make postage insurance mandatory)Describe your return policy if any, if you don't have one make sure you clearly state "as is" in your policy.

An example policy:

Item is sold "as is". All winning payments must be received with in (7)Days of auction end. If payment has not been received by the (7) Day then buyer will be reported to eBay for non-payment, and we reserve the right to re list the item in a new auction or offer it to the runner up in the auction. We accept PayPal and Money Orders only. Item will be shipped with in 48 hours of payment received, by USPS.

You Policy should be similar but in your own words or add a few things that you will want the buyer to understand.

Once you have completed the auction listing, get it live....The fun has begun!

Once you have played around a little on eBay and made some money from your first auctions, the question will creep into your mind, do you want to continue to sell on eBay?

If yes, then you must find new stuff to sell. You can do this in a few ways, buy items through garage sales or second hand shops, buy wholesale lots, create your own products or use dropshipping services.

Garage Sales and Second hand shops:

You will find plenty of items through this technique. The best possible way to do this is to find what is selling on eBay first, locate the items that will do well, then go find them or similar items. Garage sales are normally seasonal, but second hand shops are usually open year around.

Buy Wholesale lots:

This is the process were you will buy products in bulk, then sell them individually in auctions. This can have some risk. If you don't buy products that people want, then you may be left with a ton of inventory you will not be able to rid yourself of. You can find these lots on websites across the web or even through eBay.

Create Your own Products:

This is by far the most productive way to earn money from selling on EBay. If the customer can only get the product from you, then you will have no competition. Digital products such as information products or software are a very easy seller on eBay. Your own products could include craft, sewing, or anything you may be able to make that people will want...Creativity is the key...

Dropshipping:

This is the process by which you don't pay for the item until it is sold. Once you have received the payment for the item, you transfer your cost and shipping costs to the dropshipper, then they will ship the product to your buyer for you, you keep the profit. Many eBay sellers use this process, but it can be risky as well. If you sell a product that is suddenly out of stock, you'll create a problem. The best way to protect yourself from this is to buy at least one of the products you are selling, and keep it just in case it goes out of stock.

Dropshipping can be difficult at first, because you must prove yourself at first and your profits will be small, but the more you sell, the better profit range you will receive per item.
