I think I received about 14 emails saying DON'T! Google hates 'paid links' and your PageRank will be penalized.
But after searching Google to see if this was true, I found the following information from Matt Cutts
"We are concerned with paid links that flow PageRank and attempt to game Google's ranking. We are not worried about links that are paid but do not affect search engines. Google likes clean and relevant search results"
Honestly, I think most visitors only read this far and did not read the rest of the story.
Here are my tips I think could be handy if you would like to use 'paid links' and hopefully still have a good PageRank:
Publisher
You only want to have relevant paid links on your site. If your site is about dogs, don't you think having golf links might look out of place? I do and I think Google does as well.
Advertisers
Your first impulse is to go out and buy 100s of links to your site. DON'T! Google likes clean and relevant links (there's that relevant word again, but sorry i can't stress its importance). Again, only advertise on sites relevant to your niche.
Do not go and buy links to 100s of sites at once. Google will not like the sudden appearance of 100 back links to your site. So try and limit your advertising to a maximum of 8 relevant sites every few days.
Question: Would you be suspicious when 100 emails arrive in your inbox every day. I don't know about you, but I am.
But what if you received a few emails every couple of days? Would you notice them? To be honest, I probably wouldn't.
So hopefully these tips work and who knows, maybe this could be the way around being penalized for using paid links.
