Username vs Real Name Debate

My Username is not my Real Name. Do you use a USERNAME or your REAL NAME? Do you wish you had given your USERNAME more thought? Do you wish you had used your REAL NAME instead? (or vice versa) I changed my username as it wasn't that online friendly. I still belong to a few sites with my old username. Most of those sites I don't use anyways. I also have the same Real Name as Two Authors who have published books recently. I don't think they would be pleased if I used my REAL NAME as I am not an author, lol! It would be confusing!

The only site I use my REAL NAME for is Facebook. I tried to signup with my USERNAME on Facebook but they said I can't be more than one person. That makes sense! What was I thinking! Sorry, Facebook, lol! What do I know! I suppose it is possible to change your REAL NAME to your USERNAME?? on Facebook. What are your thoughts?

So what's your opinion? Let's have a debate? Do you use a Username or your Real Name? or Both? Do use a variation of your Real Name as your Username. What's your story? Do you use more than one Username? You don't have to tell us what they all are if you don't want to. What are some pros and cons to using either one. Have you changed your Username recently? Can you share any details or your story?

So, do you use a Username or your Real Name as your Username? .....you can just answer yes or no. You can also give us your opinion as to using a Username vs Real Name. The Pros & the Cons. Do you use more than one Real Name? You can just answer yes or no below. Just Kidding! Hopefully, you do not use more than one Real Name, lol! Let's Debate!

Definition of Username or Screen Name

Also Known as Your Online Name

In computing, a user is a person who uses a computer or Internet service. A user may have a user account that identifies the user by a username (also user name), screenname (also screen name), or "handle", which is derived from the identical Citizen's Band radio term. To log in to an account, a user is typically required to authenticate himself with a password or other credentials for the purposes of accounting, security, logging, and resource management. History of Twitter

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. While the service itself costs nothing to...

Interesting lens! I think usernames are usually more interesting than real names. I picked one that told who I was, a mom to four kids (I don't know how interesting it is but that's all I could think of..lol)

I got so used to hearing people call me "Ramkitten" that it almost seemed like my real name. But I sometimes do use my real name on forums. I have no problem using my real name, as I do on my blogs, but Ramkitten just seems catchier and ... well ... cuter maybe (?) than my real name. Ramkitten was and is my nickname from the Appalachian Trail and other long-distance hikes. I definitely don' think there's a right and wrong when it comes to using user names and real names. Whatever someone is comfortable with.

I was only going to create one lens and I know this is going to be a big surprise but it was about our horses and pony. :) I have more than one lens now but I still love my user name. This is a great debate. I love reading all the comments.

I have been using this name since high school, before the Internet. Like you, I don't use my real name, except for on Facebook. There are a few places where my real name is listed, but I try to keep the two separate. There is an author and conservative commentator with my name, and since I'm a conservative content producer, I think that people would get us confused if I used my real name. If there is anybody else in the world that shares my user name, they aren't active on the internet.

Honestly, I wish I had given it more thought. When I started here at Squidoo I was only going to make one lens to promote my Zazzle store. Well that certainly has changed. Now I have different names at different places, and here as Squidoo I am Pukeko, the name of our yacht - only we just sold her. If I had thought it through, I would be Rhonda, but I am not changing it now.

I have such a common name now that I'm married. I suppose I could have used my maiden name which would have been less common at least. I've stuck with a Username. It works for me, most of the time ;)

There was no way I could use my real name on Squidoo because as far as I am aware I am the only person with my name not just in the UK but all over the world as our surname is very unusual.

I knew my first lens was going to be about the bullying my daughter endured and if I was going to do an honest job then I would have to be extremely critical of others. Not only that if my daughter could be identified then the bullies could be as well - no matter how I felt about what happened, the culprits, because they were so young, deserved the same anonimity as my daughter.

However, I did choose my name with a view to the future and writing that I am planning to do, so AJ stands for "Always Juggling". I have never had a nickname before but now I have to remember to sign emails with my real name, when I am contacting my friends outside of Squidoo!!

Great idea for a TWTTRSTRM Wendy!

Two authors & I share the same real name! I think it would be confusing if I used my real name (right now). I will possibly use my real name down the road but only as a signature or in an about me page. But it's "debatable", lol! (grr....lol!) [in reply to Sojourn]
