Once in a while, busy people are given the opportunity to relax and indulge in their favorite pastime or recreational activity. These activities are often seized immediately because as everyone is well aware of, "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy".

There are a lot of options to choose from when you want to stay outdoors. Having fun in the forest is one. The smell of the earth coupled with the greenery is a perfect way to release your inhibitions and have a meaningful introspection. If you are a certified beach bum, then frolicking along the seashore with the waves gently lapping up your legs will be a great option. Whichever path will you choose to follow, you will be obligated to bring a blanket or sturdy outdoor mat along with you as a protection from the harsh elements. Surely, you don't want to go back to your office with insect bites and scratches in your face and limbs, don't you? What would people think if they see you looking like that?

However, remember that there are certain disadvantages in using outdoor mats. Read on to find out what are these negative issues being raised against this particular equipment.

The first drawback is that an outdoor mat is very expensive. Why would you want to spend your hard earned money on something that has a simple function? With the current economic turmoil that everyone is facing today, every consumer wants to maximize his purchasing power. This choice doesn't sound very appealing at all. Why get an outdoor mat when you can utilize a blanket and it costs only a fraction of the mat's price? What's more, blankets are more convenient to bring because they can easily be folded and stored in a small package. Outdoor mats are also portable but they require a bigger storage space.

Blankets are also easier to clean because by leaving them in the washing machine for a quick tumble and dry option, you can have them in tiptop condition after a few minutes. On the other hand, mats require a hands-on approach in washing because it has smaller depressions where dirt can lodge in causing a rapid deterioration if left unchecked. It must be scrutinized meticulously in order to maintain its longevity.

The second drawback is that you can't maximize its use. Aside from bringing it during your outdoor trips, it has no further practical value. This means that since it's a seasonal item, it will be left to gather dust and cobwebs in the basement or in the attic. For something so costly, don't you think it should offer more than just one purpose? In contrast, a blanket can still be used when you need to cover some furniture or designer items. It can also serve as a temporary partition or curtain when you have a minor repair done in your house.

Lastly, an outdoor mat meant for your personal use will lose its value when you have many guests in the house. It would be a shame to bring out the mat for a fun and boisterous card game on the floor when you know that only two of your guests can fit in there. It's like a subtle way of telling the others not to participate anymore.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen. The three aforementioned reasons above clearly explain why it is better to hold on to your savings for now rather than immediately buy an outdoor mat. May it serve as an enlightening guide as you conduct your cost-benefit analysis of the necessity of a mat.
