Using Plexos on Squidoo

I remember a couple of years ago; when I was first told I could copy a plexo from one lensmasters lens to my own, just by following a few simple directions. At first I was very confused, but after seeing how they work I have learned a lot. Basically this information will be for New Squidoo Lensmasters who may not understand the wonders of using the Plexo modules on their lens.

The Links Voting Plexo Module

*This module helps you to create a list of your favorite links

*Visitors can vote the links up or down
More on this in a moment

*You can add links

*You can share it; other lensmasters can grab it and use it on their lens

The Reward:

*It generates traffic to both of you-creating back links!

IMPORTANT..

I did not realize how important this was until cloud9 brought it to my attention. When you add plexo's to your lens, please consider clicking on approve first before a link is added. I have plexo's just about on all my lenses and I have been spending a lot of time cleaning them up from "junk" links.

If you click on the approve first, this will take care of a problem before it comes up.

Making a list

type=textOne of my favorite things to do on Squidoo is having organization for the links. If I visit a lens and looking for a recipe to make sugar cookies or a certain type of bread-if there is a plexo I can go through the links and find a recipe that fits my needs. Plus I really enjoy going through the different links looking at how many different versions there are for some recipes.

You do not only have to add links from Squidoo on the Links Plexo, if you know of another site on the web that offers great recipes you can add that link as well. That is a great way to create "Click Outs" all that means is when someone clicks on that link and goes to another site, you are creating something interesting enough to have someone go and take a look around.

You can check your "Click Outs" on your stats reports. On your dashboard, click on one of your lens and under the title of the lens there is a list of different options. Click on "Stats" and on the first page it will show you "Surfer Stats" that has the number of click-outs your lens has had to date. This is a good thing that means there is something on your lens that interests your visitors enough to go check it out.

This can be a fun module as well, creating list of links for your favorite things, objects, songs and so on.

Voting Up or Down

type=textI will be honest; I always try to turn this option off on my plexo modules. For me, and I am only speaking for myself when I create a Links Plexo, I am creating it for a list of the same things, not so much for which of the links or products is the best.

You have the option in the menu if you want your voters to be able to vote the links up or down. You can either leave it on or turn it off. The choice is yours. I do know that this module is used a lot for competitions and contest, so of course when you are using this module for that purpose you would want to leave the options on for voting up or down.

Anytime you are looking for the best in anything, you would want to leave the option on, but in my case, since I mainly use this module for links only I always turn it off.

Share it!!

type=textThis is one of my favorite things about this module. When visitors visit your lens and add links, they can grab the Links Plexo and add it to their own Squidoo lens. I believe this would be a great thing to do especially with Holiday Lens.
To Share the Link Plexo, again you have the option if you want others to be able to get it or not. But what do you do when you find a plexo you would like to be listed on your lens?

There are two buttons at the bottom of the module: Add to or Grab This.

Click on Grab This

-You can Get the RSS Feed and keep an on the plexo list to see who wins.

-You can get a widget of the Plexo for your blog, site or forum

-You can get a full copy of the module and add it to your lens by clicking on which link you want to add it to.

A box will show up that list all of your Squidoo Lens, you choose which lens you want this plexo to go on. Click on the Squidoo Lens you want the plexo, then it will give you an option to go straight to your workshop so you place the plexo where you want it, or you can leave it where ever it is place, usually at the bottom of the lens.

Win-Win Situation

type=textI believe that one of the objectives is drive traffic to your Squidoo Lens. I mean, that is why we are all writing these lens correct? My answer would be "Yes" to this but in my case it truly is not the only reason I write lens. I want to be able to share my views with certain subjects that could possibly help someone else or make that person think.

I feel that if we all help each other, many things can be accomplished. Perhaps, some of us is not as well known as others, perhaps some of us remain behind a screen while others completely put their selves out there, regardless of what the situation, by adding Plexo's to your lens, you are helping to drive traffic to others lens/blogs or forums and in turn, by sharing the plexo it could drive more traffic to your lens as well. I see this as a win-win situation. I am helping you and you are helping me, and neither one of us need to do that much of anything but what we usually do.

Many times; when I visiting other lensmasters lens, I will feature them on my lens by adding a "Feature Lensmasters" Module. You can list up to five lenses and it helps to give your visitors additional sites they may like to visit. You cannot share the "Feature Lensmasters" Module, nor add to it but it is still way to offer your visitors more things and drives traffic to others site.

You can check who has linked to your lens by going to the lens on your dashboard, click on stats, then click on the "Traffic Tab" scroll down the page to the referrer section and it will list who has linked to your page. Also, If I am not mistaken, when you lensroll a page over to your lenses, you can see what lenses your page has been lensrolled too by looking on the Discovery Tool.

I also do a lot of Lensrolling. You do that by clicking on the "Smiling Face" at the top of the page. When you click on the smiling face a list of your pages will come up, click on the lens you want to add the link to and click on continue.

Great advice on using Plexos, something that I was thinking to write. I used to allow Down Voting, but then every time a spammer adds their link, they seem to have voted down everyone elses, which destroys the voting. For that reason alone I only allow Voting Up these days.

Last time I was here, I missed the plexo. I have also added "My Top Ten Squidoo Lens Experiment" to the plexo because it does have tips of getting traffic and other help for Squidooers. I hope you agree. I'm in the process of adding a plexo for help lenses on it as well.

This is a good overview of the links plexo. I use that module quite a bit, with one lens almost entirely made up of plexos. (Which I thank you for visiting!) I think that as long as there's sufficient original content in the lens to go along with the plexos, plexos are a great way to organize and feature other people's work (or even our own sometimes). I've never tried "grabbing" a plexo from another lens, but I'll have to keep that in mind if I see one that would apply to a lens of mine.
