The USS George H. W. Bush is the tenth and final aircraft carrier in the Nimitz class and was launched on October 9, 2006. Commissioning for this vessel was timed so that President George W. Bush would still be in office to participate with his father and the ship's namesake, Former President George H. W. Bush.
Although the USS George H. W. Bush is a Nimitz class carrier it differs significantly from its predecessors.

The Navy took delivery of its newest aircraft carrier, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding May 11. George H.W. Bush is the 10th and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
"George H.W. Bush has been eight years in the making, with its keel laid in 2003, followed by christening in 2006 and today's delivery. It's a testament to the dedication and professionalism of both the Navy and our industry partners," said Capt. Frank Simei, Navy program manager for in-service aircraft carriers.

The Pirates paintball team of USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) won the Multi-Command Paintball Tournament, sponsored by Morale, Welfare and Recreation, by defeating teams from three other local commands.
In a double-elimination bracket featuring 11, eight-person teams, the Pirates overcame the competition to win the tournament with a 5-0 record.
Teams from USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), USS Enterprise (CVN 65) and USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) were pitted against each other on two woodland courses at Fox Brother's Paintball Field in Virginia Beach, Va.
