Roosevelt means "field of roses" in Dutch and is pronounced "rose-e-velt." There are two roses on the seal of the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Aircraft Carriers always travel with an entourage called a Carrier Strike Group. Strike groups are assembled and disassembled as needed according to the mission, but a typical strike group might consist of these ships:

One of the USS Theodore Roosevelt's responsibilities is to keep the sea lanes open. Of course it has many missions that it can perform in time of war but it also carries out many peace time operations such as rescuing refugees, helping those in distress at sea, and replenishment of ships at sea.
