The Utility Warehouse: Who are they? What do they do? How can I benefit? And what's so great about them?
"Who are The Utility Warehouse?"
And why haven't I heard of them before?
The Utility Warehouse Discount Club is operated by the British company Telecom plus PLC.Telecom plus Utility Warehouse services include low-cost gas and electricity, low-cost phone calls, low-cost mobiles and BlackBerries, low-cost broadband, and free telephone calls between all customers.
The Utility Warehouse offers customers a service which enables virtually every household and business min the UK to pay wholesale rates for all their utility bills.
This means you get all your bills condensed down each month into just one monthly bill, and you save a few hundred pounds by doing so.
"Why don't The Utility Warehouse advertise like other companies?"
The power of word-of-mouth
The Utility Warehouse do not advertise the savings available with their Discount Club because instead they rely on their satisfied customers to spread the word for them. And it's working very well! They recently came top in a huge study done by European Business Magazine of the fastest growing companies in eurpoe. And Telecom plus (the company behind The Utility Warehouse) came 1st.They do not advertise on tv, radio, and in magazines because people are recommending the company to their friends and family.
The Times newspaper referred to this as a "Virtuous Circle". The more people who join The Utility Warehouse the lower the prices can go because of bulk buying, and the lower the prices go the more people who'll join, and so on.
So get in the Discount Club now and save!
"I know somebody who does something to do with The Utility Warehouse. What exactly do they do?"
Being an Authorised Distributor
To speed up the word of mouth promotion of the Discount Club, some customers are so pleased with the savings they have made on their own bills that they register with the company as an Authorised Distributor.A person would register as an Authorised Distributor so they can help sign up their friends and family for the services of the Discount Club, because every person who is in the Discount Club has unlimited phone calls to everybody else in the Discount Club. Telecom plus PLC (who operate The Utility Warehouse Discount Club) allow people to register as Authorised Distributors because it is a way of formalising recommendations in order to reward those who tell others about the Discount Club. The cost to become an Authorised Distributor is £199.75, and you are rewarded with a small percentage of the monthly spend of all the people you recommend.
Most of the Authorised Distributors registered so they could earn enough each month (from the small percentages) to pay for their own bills, or to pay off a debt, or to plug a gap in their pension in just a few years. Some Authorised Distributors registered because they wanted to earn a few thousand pounds per month. So everybody moves at their own pace.

Which? Magazine
Talk Gets Cheaper - Which? September 2005
This latest offering from Which? Magazine places The Utility Warehouse as Number 1 for Customer Satisfaction and well ahead of BT, NTL, Onetel etc...along with a great endorsement of their Line Rental & Calls options.
"I think i've heard about The Utility Warehouse in the press..."
The Telegraph
An article appeared on The Telegraph website recently which talked about the online price comparison sites and the rising cost of housegold energy bills.Extracts from article:
"...for most medium-use customers who pay by monthly direct debit, the cheapest electricity and gas is likely to be from Utility Warehouse, but some of the switching services do not list the company. They say this is because Utility Warehouse has an agent-based recruiting network, and does not provide them with its latest price tariffs. Utility Warehouse says it is because it refuses to pay them commission."

The Daily Mail
In the same week as the Which? Magazine survey, a supporting article appeared in The Daily Mail. The article, titled 'Millions say BT is the worst phone firm for service', gave a negative view of BT, NTL and several other companies. The article places The Utility Warehouse even further up the table for Customer Satisfaction, suggesting that 78% of our customers are very satisfied! The also article stated:
"The best firm offering both line rental and calls was Utility Warehouse, ahead of Onetel, Kingston and British Gas".

The BlackBerry
Faster than the speed of life!

A BlackBerry is a small internet phone, as you can see in the picture, and all your emails get delivered to it at the exact moment they are sent to you. You don't have to log in, or click 'Send Receive'. They just arrive. Like text messages on your regular (boring) mobile phone. Then you can reply, wherever you are. Just like a text message. But you don't pay. There is an Instant Messenger (just like MSN) to talk with your friends, and you don't pay for that either. You also get unlimited free text messages between all BlackBerry handsets on the globe. Wherever they are on the globe.
Cool?
Everyone needs a BlackBerry!

"But am I tied into huge contracts with the services?"
Will I be stuck?!
No minimum contract is available on the Home Phone, sim-free mobile tariffs, and the gas and electricity.
If you get mobile handsets from them then there is a contract period (of varying length depending on the retail price of the phone) so people don't just run off with their handsets!
The same for Broadband. There is a 12 month commitment.
If you do wish to cancel either of these services though you must pay the remaining cost of any equipment sent to you by The Utility Warehouse.
Sounds fair to me.
"Where is The Utility Warehouse customer services, and are the any good?"
It's not just THEM saying it...
Because customers of The Utility Warehouse can get all their household bills on one bill each month, anytime they need to phone for help or with questions they get to speak to one person in customer services about their entire bill, instead of being bounced from department to department.
UPDATE: The Daily Mail recently reported that The Utility Warehouse were "The Best" for customer satisfaction in a major survey undertaken by 'Which?', the independent consumer magazine.
