Basic vacation planning tips
When planning a vacation, be sure to leave some time for spontaneous adventures. Even taking a wrong turn can provide a unique and exciting experience you may have otherwise missed. Set aside some time one afternoon to take a drive and explore the area you are visiting. Ask the hotel desk staff or the local people for the best restaurants, sight seeing opportunities and special events in the area.
Pick up brochures and pamphlets wherever you can find them.
Before you go, do some research on the internet about the area you will be visiting. When you are there, try something you wouldn't ordinarily do at home. Eat at a restaurant that you don't have in your hometown or one that serves food unique to the location.
Be sure to have your camera ready at all times and carrying extra batteries will ensure you'll never be disappointed over a missed picture. After your vacation, print and frame some of your pictures and hang them where you will see them frequently. Place a small frame on your desk at work to remind you of your time away. This will allow you to keep your memories fresh in your mind.
While shopping on vacation you can get ahead on your Christmas or birthday shopping by picking up unusual items or items specific to the place you are visiting. If it's too much trouble to carry the items home, have them shipped and they will probably be there by the time you arrive.
Pack a small bag of necessities. You might select items such a sunscreen, a poncho or small umbrella, chewing gum, sunglasses, visor, flashlight, nailfile, hand wipes, etc. Put this bag into the bottom of your day pack. Be sure to have Tuck some postage stamps and printed address labels in your wallet. Purchase postcards and pop them in the mail. It will make your friends and family at home know that you are thinking of them.
Be sure to have your medical insurance information at hand in the case of an emergency, as well as phone numbers of friends or family that would need to be contacted. Above all, think VACATION! and make every effort to turn all experiences into positive ones - they will be memories you will cherish for a life time.
