Vacu Vin Vacuum Pump Keeps Your Wine Fresh

I love having a glass of wine with dinner occasionally, but drinking a whole bottle at once is a bit much. I didn't see any other alternative, until my mom told me about the vacu vin wine saver. She got one as a gift and just loved it. I was a bit skeptical though. A wine saver pump? Can that really work?

Then, she gave me one for the holidays. Mom was right. It works!

No more wasting wine. I open the bottle, drink what I like, and then just use the pump. It's really easy. Put a stopper on the bottle (the pump comes with two, and you can buy more if you need them), pump the air out, and your wine will last for nearly two weeks. No more pouring money down the drain!

How Does the Vacu Vin Wine Saver Work?

The Vacu Vin vacuum wine saver sucks the air out of an opened bottle of wine. This delays the oxidation process, which means you can keep (and drink) your wine for several days. And, it doesn't turn to vinegar.

Newer versions of the Vacu Vin make a click sound so you can tell if you've pumped enough air out. Mine doesn't, but I can tell when it gets really hard to pump that the air is nearly gone.

When you're ready to drink your saved wine, just push the center of the stopper to the side to break the seal (you'll hear a little whoosh as air enters the bottle), take out the stopper and pour your wine.

VacuVin Champagne Saver

Save your champagne

The original vacu vin wine saver only works for wine. It doesn't work with champagne or sparkling wine.

If you want to save your champagne, you'll need a champagne bottle saver.

This nifty gadget works not by taking the air out of the bottle, but by keeping the air in — the bubbly air that is. Once you open your champagne, just slide the champagne saver down over the top to close it off and keep the carbonation from escaping. When you want to pour a glass, lift up the little lever on the side. The stopper pours the champagne, keeps it from dripping, and closes back up to protect further when you push the lever back down.

Not all champagne bottles are alike and no champagne stopper is going to fit them all, but the Vacu Vin model is fairly standard and most people have no trouble getting it to work with the champagne they buy. One Amazon reviewer said she had tried it on 15 varieties of champagne and a few American and Italian bubblies as well with no problem! And, I bet the testing was awfully fun!

I love to cook (and eat). Luckily, I live in New York City, where there's lots of wonderful food. My cat, Paris, thinks it's all for him!
