The Flow of Hundertwasser
changing the shape of things
I'd not heard of this Viennese painter and architect before. He didn't believe in the straight line. He planted lawns and trees on rooftops without hesitation. He made no two windows alike.
I can see his sense of design having an influence when it comes to finally building my dream house.

Vagary, Queen of the Trites
In the videogame DOOM 3, one of the monsters that you can encounter is Vagary. She's a cross of a woman and some sort of spider from Hell, with some telekentic powers sprinkled on top. So while she's biting you, or taking chunks out of you with her pinchers, she'll also be throwing things at you with her mind. And did I mention her offspring, the Trites? They are these sort of spider creatures who will attack you in swarms.

Polar Star Alignment
arctic artistic assembly
A National Science Foundation Artist and Writers Grant recipient, artist Lita Albuquerque, has conceived of Stellar Axis: Antarctica, an art expedition to Antarctica and Phase I of a two-part project that will entail a tracing of the stars above the North and South Pole onto the ice at both poles. Albuquerque's international team members, British astronomer Simon Balm, British documentary filmmaker Sophie Pegrum, French Antarctic photographer Jean De Pomereu, and Italian-based French cinematographer Lionel Cousin will be deployed at McMurdo Station, Ross Island, Antarctica, on the first week of December 2006. They will position ninety-nine blue spheres in alignment to the stars over the South pole onto the Ross Ice Shelf on December 22, 2006. A performance indicating the motion of the stars at the poles will also be filmed. ""By doing a star alignment on the ice at both poles, it engages the whole planet," says Albuquerque. "I'm interested in creating a mental image of the patterns aligning. In a way, it's like taking a snapshot of a moment in time when the stars are aligned to the pattern on the ground, so that the 'picture' is an accurate picture of not just a planet floating in space, but a planet surrounded by a vast circulatory system of stars of which we are a part."The Vagaries of Space and Time

- Blue Origin
- We're working, patiently and step-by-step, to lower the cost of spaceflight so that many people can afford to go and so that we humans can better continue exploring the solar system. Accomplishing this mission will take a long time, and we're working on it methodically. We believe in incremental improvement and in keeping investments at a pace that's sustainable. Slow and steady is the way to achieve results, and we do not kid ourselves into thinking this will get easier as we go along. Smaller, more frequent steps drive a faster rate of learning, help us maintain focus, and give each of us an opportunity to see our latest work fly sooner.

The Work of Matthew Barney
His latest is a collaboration with his wife, Bjork, a film called "Drawing Restraint 9." I was lucky enough to visit San Francisco in the summer of 2006 and see his solo show which featured work from all stages of the Drawing Restraint series. Seeing his large-scale industrial Vasoline sculptures up-close was very interesting. I really enjoyed the bits of the video "Drawing Restraint 7" that they showed, which featured Barney and another actor dressed as satyrs, wrestling in the back of a limo that was driving around New York at night. My brain is still working on that one.
