How to Make and Where to Buy Valentines Day Decorations for 2012
Any time is a good time to start crafting and crocheting Valentines Day decorations and ornaments for 2012. For Valentines day in 2011, we decorated the Norfolk Island Pine tree that we purchased for Christmas with Valentines Day decorations.
I have the tree set in a prominent place and will be making and/or purchasing ornaments for Valentines Day...depending upon how much time I have. I thought there were only Christmas ornaments for such a tree, how wrong I am, just look below and you'll see what I mean.
There are many Valentines Day ornaments and decorations that you can make for your home, no matter what craft you prefer.

How to Crochet a Heart for Valentines Day
Here is a picture of my first attempt at crocheting the hearts...I tied them together and tied a poem I wrote for my husband into a scroll with them on Valentines Day 2012
Here is what you will need to crochet the hearts pictured here and below. Please click the picture of the hearts here or below to be taken to the full post and pattern information, including abbreviations, for this project...you are going to need to do that, as there is a link to another pattern you will need within her instructions.
Skill level: beginner
Yarn: worsted weight, I used Simply Soft by Caron
Hook: Size I
Time: 5-15 minutes
Pattern:
Chain 14. In the 4th chain from hook: complete the beginning heart pattern here: from 3 TR to the Chain 2 (17 stitches including the chain stitches). Slip stitch into the top of the heart. Slip stitch into the chain at the left point of the heart. SC 1 in next chain. 2 DC in each of next 3 stitches. 1 DC into each of next 4 stitches. At the bottom of the heart, 3 DC in same stitch. 1 DC into each of next 4 stitches. 2 DC in each of next 3 stitches. SC 1 in next stitch. Slip stitch in last 2 stitches. This should bring you to center of heart top. Chain 9. Tie the two chains together and cut tails.

Explanation for the simple decoration below
Valentines Day came quickly, and I was so involved in crocheting a prayer shawl, that I wasn't able to make any new decorations for my tree this year. I did, however, put a Valentines Day garland on it...it is hard to see, but it has little hearts throughout the garland.

- Those crocheted Valentine's Day hearts are so cute! I love to decorate for the holidays, it brings happiness to the house, more particularly during wintertime - and, believe me, in my area, we definitely need to get happiness by the hand and bring him home, as the weather is most of the time grey... so, holiday decorations set the colored shades that we miss so much.
