Valentines and Poetry

What if everyday was Valentines day? It could result into a very peaceful and happy planet. Or perhaps an overpopulated Earth. It makes you really wonder. Anyway...

We used to laugh at people going on a date on Valentines day. To my horror I found my self on a lakeside restaurant on a dinner date. But well, hormones, youth and a beautiful woman can make you do "unspeakable" things.

I remember well the dancing shadows cast by a hundred flickering candles. I remember the distant sigh of the lake, the faint tinkle of glasses and silverware, the soft haunting music of a guitar... I remember the growing lump in my throat whenever she looked deep into my eyes. I remember the way the soft breeze tousled her hair. I remember the way she wrapped her arms around my waist when it was time to go home. I can still remember her whispering sweet secret things in my ears.

For seven years we had a wonderful life. I was king of the world. I had everything. I wanted nothing more. My life was complete.

I learned the hard way that their is no pain greater than that of a broken heart.

The Valentine Heart

Be different this Valentines Day

...give it a try

Trust me on this, sometimes we take for granted people we love. We often think that they'll be their always when we need them. Problem is... life is not that simple. People change as often as the seasons. Those you have trusted with all your heart and soul suddenly turn their backs on you. Some even stab you on the back and turn the knife in the process.

Never take your love ones for granted. As long as they are on your side, tell them how you love them. It doesn't need to be Valentines day. You can make everyday a Valentines day. Nurture your relationship and love them as if you've never been hurt before. I believe it is the only way to live life to the fullest. Never fill your heart with hatred. This will drag you down into a bottomless pit that is hard to get out.

Even if they have forgotten you or left you behind, move on but never forget them. Memories will keep you company when you are at the sunset of your life. I have been hurt. Deeply hurt. But I'll never forget her. I am not in the habit of throwing away good memories. :-) You should not too.

Give your love one the perfect gift this Valentines day. It can be anything. A post card, a box of chocolates, long stem flowers, a candle lit dinner, a walk into the sunset, breakfast in bed... then both of you will have memories to treasure perhaps until the sands of time run out.

Most of all, read your partner a poem. Write one. Memorize one. As long as it comes from the heart... it will be very meaningful. Listen to the poems I've listed below. Use them if you want. They are among the best. And I dedicate them all to my first date my first love in Dalampasigan and someone special who has somehow unknowingly stirred the smoldering embers in my heart. Sadly, for now, a love that may never be.

Don't miss your chance this Valentines day. I missed mine. You should not.
