For Teens and Adults: Dracula
The granddaddy of all vampire tales, Bram Stoker's Dracula is still chilling people to their bones more than 100 years after it was first published. The murderous yet seductive Count has also appeared in many classic films.
The Origins of the Vampire Legend
Bram Stoker, the founder of the modern vampire legend, is said to have based Dracula on the lives of two of humanity's most bloodthirsty children, the Romanian prince Vlad the Impaler and the Hungarian countess, Elizabeth Báthory, one of history's most prolific serial killers. However, vampire legends existed long before Bram Stoker's famous Count, and there are many interesting explanations for them. Explanations range from improper understanding of decomposition processes to medical and psychological conditions.
