History of Van Halen
How the band Van Halen got started
Van Halen is a hard rock band formed in in 1972. They enjoyed success from the release of their self titled debut album in 1978. As of 2007 Van Halen has sold more than 80 million albums worldwidePress Release Announcing 2004 Van Halen Concert Tour and have had the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. During the 1980s they also had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other hard rock or heavy metal band. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is the 19th best selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the USA and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the USA.
In addition to being recognized for success, the band is known for the drama surrounding the exits of former members. The (multiple) exits of singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were surrounded in controversy and mass press coverage with various contrasting press statements between them and the band. More recently, founding bassist Michael Anthony was kicked out of the band for controversial reasons. Following their 2004 concert tour the band was on a hiatus from the public until September 2006, when new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen's place was confirmed and Roth-reunion rumours began to re-surface coinciding with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on March 12, 2007. After years of speculation, Van Halen began a tour with Roth in late 2007 across North America, which has been extended into 2008. An album is proposed to follow. Along with this, a live tour DVD was announced at their May 13, 2008 concert at the Izod Center that would contain recordings from several performances on their current tour.

Greatest Hits of Van Halen
In addition to material from the band's first ten studio albums (minus Diver Down), Best of Volume I also features the band's contribution to the Twister soundtrack ("Humans Being") and two newly recorded songs with original vocalist David Lee Roth ("Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic").
Initial pressings of the album contained an alternate version of "Runnin' With the Devil" where the verses, chorus and solos were arranged in a different order than that of the original album version. It was reported that this was accidental and subsequent pressing have replaced this version with the one found on Van Halen.

"Jump" may be Van Halen's most popular and instantly recognizable composition, perhaps because its sound embodies the key aspects of both of the two genres of popular music most associated with the 1980s in America: synth-driven pop and "arena"-style metal. Its synthesized brass introduction is one of popular music's most recognizable musical introductions. The song changed the future and style of Van Halen from being a predominantly Hard Rock band to one of more radio-oriented popular music.

History
A Van Halen tour with Roth was rumored for months beforehand, and there had been discussions about a reunion with him for years (in part fueled by Roth's first public attempt at a reunion with Van Halen going wrong) but there had never been success before. Three times in 2000-2001, Roth entered the 5150 studio (Eddie Van Halen's personal recording studio) with the Van Halen brothers to jam.
The controversial angle to the tour is that Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang Van Halen is the band's new bassist, the first time any slot other than the vocalist one has changed since 1974. This has offended many fans because original bassist Michael Anthony was not asked to be a part of this reunion. Wolfgang is a mere 17 years old at present. However the tour has sold well, selling out several dates. Initially 25 dates across the USA/Canada were announced, but 50 more have been added due to this demand.
Van Halen 2007-2008 Tour was a North American concert tour occurring in the fall of 2007 and winter and spring of 2008 for hard rock band Van Halen. It was Van Halen's first tour since 2004 (which itself was the band's only tour since 1998), and the first one with original singer David Lee Roth since he left the band in 1985. Roth was with the band from 1974-1985, when the band rose to prominence.
The tour was originally going to be a fifty date summer tour in 2007. When re-scheduled, it was announced as a twenty-five date tour in Winter 2007. - Man! Tank God they got back together! I was a big fan in the 80's all the way up until they got Sammy Hagar. I liked a couple of their songs, but it just wasn't the same without Roth. Great lens.
